Hello everyone and welcome to the third week of the 2013 contests.  The first two weeks have been really great so far.  There's been lots of participants and close matches, so let's keep that going this week with Donkey Kong.  Here are the rules:
  • 1 life only
  • Play on 1 Player, Game A
  • You may use the black box version of Donkey Kong or Donkey Kong Classics
  • If you loop the score, please provide a picture just prior to looping the score and just after looping the score.  If you loop the score more than once, please provide before and after pictures for each loop.
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 2/24/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will not be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

RANDOM PRIZE WEEK

Yes, you read that right.  This will be our first random prize contest of the year.  How will this work exactly?  Anyone who participates in the contest this week will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a prize.  To determine the winner of the prize, I will assign everyone who participates a number at the end of the week and use a random number generator to pick the winner.  To make it fair for everyone who plays in the contests, you can only win one random prize for the year.  For random prize weeks, cheating will NOT be tolerated.  Anyone suspected of cheating will be disqualified from winning the prize and banned from further contests.  Score submissions will be more closely looked at during random prize weeks.  Random prizes will be stopped entirely if problems begin to arise (this includes cheating, arguing, finger-pointing, etc.).  I want to do this every month as a way of saying thank you to everyone who plays in the contests and want this to run as smoothly as possible.  Let's make this a fun thing to do   So what's the prize you say?  Here's what I'm giving away this week:

Skull & Crossbones for the NES (Cart only)

The game has been cleaned and tested and works great, although I will clean and test it again before shipping it to the winner.  There is a sticker on the back of the cartridge that I will attempt to remove before sending it out to the winner.  If I can't remove it without damaging the back label of the cartridge, I will not remove it.  One more note: I would ask that if you live outside of North America and win a random prize to chip in a couple dollars for shipping.  Shipping outside of North America can get a little pricey, but I will attempt to send it out the cheapest way that won't take forever to get to its destination.

One other note about random prize weeks: This will be the only week that I announce at the start of the contest that it will be a random prize week. From now on, random prizes will be announced at the conclusion of the contests. This will be done to make things more...well...random Hey, they are "random prize weeks" after all

Quick question about the random prizes: let's say I win the Skull and Crossbones cart this week and I decide to give it to somebody else. Would I then be eligible to win in the next random prize drawing?

Exceptions could be made in such situations, but I want to think about it a little bit more before I come up with an answer.

Ok, an answer to this question.  Once you have won a random prize drawing, the prize is yours to do what you want with it.  Therefore, you will be ineligible to win a random prize the next time one is given out.  This is so everyone can have a chance to win a prize.

Question, I believe I actually don't have this game in any form other than a Supervision pirate. May I use that? As far as I remember, there is no difference from the original. I'll know when I play it.

If there's no difference from the NES version, then the Supervision pirate will be fine.

Also made an update to the rules concerning looping of the score.

In other words, take a pic around the loop before scoring more on the other play thoroughs?

Dang, does this mean I have to re-submit? lol

I also forgot to add: in the hypothetical where I would be allowed to give it away to another participant so I can be eligible in the next drawing, the other participant who received it from me would from then on be ineligible. Then it frees up one spot in the drawing and it's all the same.

Not that I really care since I'm going to participate regardless of the prizes, but thought I would clarify what I had in mind.

Still confusing a bit. lol Mostly it's impossible for me to take a pic during the last sequence before the loop, because I get in "the zone" and forget to pause to take a snap shot. By then, the ending seqence starts, and I can't pause the screen-- which wouldn't matter anyways since the ending sequence before the loop hides the score.

So if it's okay, after every ending sequence, I'll pause the first screen when the loop restarts and take pics of the top score before continuing. I'll continue to do this untill I loose a life. It's easier for me that way if that's okay.

ha!  I died on the same screen and loop..  I don't know how you can even see the difference on the spring on the 2nd stage.. so that's all luck for me.

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

Use Alt+ENTER to go in and out of full screen mode, ALT+F4 to close the emulator all together.

Ok ended on lvl 4 But reading the rules it said you must provide a pic of each loop. I wasnt paying attention and only got the last loop. Would you still by chance except my score. Would everyone be ok with that or start over

Oh, and I'll post my score on Friday, because right now I'm on vacation and I only have a SNES with me.
