Hi guys i'm new here, my name is Alon.
I hope i'm posting in the right place, i've done some research and didn't find full answer.
I need to dump ROM from SNES prototype (probably LoROM).
What is the best device for doing that?

Is it loose EPROM on on a cart?
If cart, try a Retrode or Mash-Mods programmer.

Yeah, I highly recommend either a Retrode or a Mash-Mods, especially the latter.

If the rom is different then a released version the Retrode may not read it FYI

While true, it still does pretty well with prototypes. There really aren't many, if any, other openly available USB-based ROM dumpers for SNES/SFC; or at least dumpers that don't rely on parallel port, floppies, etc. The Super UFO Pro 8 isn't a good alternative, from what I've read and been told.

I have both. Both use a checksum to determine what game it is. If the checksum is not in its database, it will not read it. The only alternative I had found was removing the EPROMs and dumping with a reader. I had this problem with a coupe snes, a few gb, and a sms cart.

That's a bit unusual, as I've dumped a few SNES and GB protos that are different from final with the Retrode (2), without any problem. Not saying it's perfect, it is hit-and-miss. I think I read a post somewhere on the retrode forum addressing this, but am not sure.

I don't know about sms, but I can suggest some alternatives for GB and SNES, if they'll interest you somewhere down the line.

BennVenn; for GB, GBC and GBA; available here: http://bennvenn.myshopify.com/...
Altane; for GB and GBC, however, it's not in stock last I checked
Mash-Mods; for SNES, as stated above (highly recommended); need to email the person

The trick with the Retrode whether the prototype is the same or very different from the final is changing the forcesize, and setting the forcesystem to the system the prototype is from. After a couple tries adusting the forcesize each dump you should get it!

Also a small note Game Gear forcesystem was bugged with Game Gear.(It wasn't being processed even though all the parts were correctly in place.)

There is some information here: http://www.retrode.org/documentat...

Basically plug the Retrode in by itself and you'll be able to see it's configuration file. You can then change and save that file so the next time you put in a game it'll be set to those settings, and what to look for.

However it's not very straight to the point on how to dump something exactly. I'll see if I can make a small guide in the near future! Is there anything you had trouble dumping?

Thanks it worked with one of them, The Flintstones
Stil does not reconize Stone Protectors or Batman Revenge of the Joker but I guess I can try to force mappers.

Thanks man success!
Used the force system and force size and I was able to dump Stone Protectors and Batman. For forcesize use double what you think. If it is a 2MB rom use 4 in the forcesize.

Also succss dumping 2 SMS Prototypes too. Paperboy and Gain Ground. Athough undocumented, SMS works in the forcesystm field and for forcesize use 1 for 128k and 2 for 256k.
Now to dig out some GB protos I was having trouble dumping!!!!

So i see people are pleased with retrode.
The Super UFO Pro 8 isn't good alternative as some said, so i need to choose between retrode and Mash-Mods.

Wow, it's amazing that the Retrode's getting new-found success. The suggestions with it have mostly been theoretical up until now; so it's definitely gone up in recommendation for me. Whether you want to get it or the Mash-Mods is really up to you.

Mash-Mods has a perfect track record with the prototypes in supported game types that have been dumped; it can be configured to the same extent as the Retrode; cheaper to buy than the Retrode. Downsides are that it doesn't support most special chip games, except FX-2 and maybe another (need to double-check); operating it isn't like simple GUI with drag-n-drop; only SNES/SFC support; no longer being developed and supply is limited; minor issue is USB cable isn't included (though it's the common A-B cable); also, it's just the board without a shell, so handle it with care.

Retrode 2 supports more systems, both innately and via plugin adapters sold separately; more SNES/SFC special chip game support; dumping games is essentially drag-n-drop; you get the USB cable; as configurable as the Mash-Mods; there is an active community for it, so there's support and some development; stock will probably be maintained; present with a shell for easier handling. Downsides are it's more expensive; is known to be hit and miss with dumping prototypes, which is a big factor since that's the relevant purpose here (though perhaps people haven't tried adjusting the settings).

Great that you were able to dump the games with a Retrode. I have a Mash Mods dumper, and have never had a problem with it dumping prototypes (I have about 20 of them), but the Retrode has given me problems.

Would you be able to run NSRT on your SNES prototypes and post the output? It is the easiest way to tell whether or not they are the same as final.

Ok guys, i'm back.
I've just recived the Mash Mode and it works very good, i've been able to dump the ROM.
I was worried to say that i'm the one who bought the Mega Man X prototype 0.2 but i decided to tell now.
Any other program to check output of ROM besides NSRT?
