Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  Week One of the 2016 contests proved to be an exciting one with some intense Super Mario action and this week should be no exception!  For Week Two, we are going to fly across the Atlantic Ocean to good old Mother Russia, where the citizens drink vodka like it is water, Karnov is the nation's mascot, the women are either beautiful and blonde or hideous and hairy, and vessel is pronounced "wessel."  That's right, this week we will be playing Russia's national pastime: Tetris.  To get yourself in game shape for this one to compete against some of NA's best Tetris players, here are some tips: brush up on your Tetrads, blare some Russian opera music, and guzzle enough vodka to make Boris "Gimme a Drink" Yeltsin proud.  Here are the rules:
 
 

• Play on Mode A
• Choose whichever speed you want from 0-9 (you may not choose anything higher than speed 9)
• Play until Game Over
• Highest score wins
• Take your picture on the "Congratulations" screen instead of the rocket blast off screen
• Participation: 50,000
• GENRE: Puzzle

 
 
***Tie breaking procedure if more than one player maxes out the score***
Fewest lines cleared takes precedence
 
 
The contest ends Sunday, 2/28/16 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Had a feeling this might be another no emulators allowed week. I don't own this cart,so I'm out.

And Bimmy wouldn't powerpacks,etc be banned as well since they have some emulator features like save states etc?

You did specifically state:

"No emulators allowed (Almost everyone should have Tetris in their collection)" 

Which implies that it is cart only,because everyone should own the Tetris cart. 

That would disallow everdrives,powerpacks,etc...correct?
 

Played for two hours but my third or fourth attempt was much better than the rest. Don't think I'll improve much on this.

hmmm 50,000  I probably won't even make participation.  I am horrible at tetris.

I don't know about the PP, with its save states, but I was hoping to use my Everdrive. It doesn't have save states as far as I know. Just plays the rom like any other cart. Crossed fingers that this isn't an issue. It's kind of embarrassing, but I don't own Tetris, ha. 

I am terrible at Tetris, but I'm working on it. I haven't cracked 30k yet. Urgh. So bad. 
 

Powerpak and Everdrive will be allowed, the main point is to play the game on the real hardware. Save states are naturally forbidden in any shape or form.

You should give it a try, I totally suck too at Tetris and was able to do 50k in a reasonable time.

Like I stated previously,I would think if emulators are not allowed because everyone should own the cart and therefore be playing on said cart,then this week's contest should be using only the actual Tetris cartridge on an US Nintendo console and absolutely nothing else.

At least that's how I interpreted the rules.

Nevermind...just saw the rules edit.

Further edits made in regards to the usage of flash carts. Any cheat codes, save states, etc. that give you any advantage over playing on an actual cartridge are absolutely forbidden.

The last time I played Tetris was for my blog and I scored 288,320 starting from Level 0.  I'm sure I can crack 300K but that won't hold a candle to some of the scores I'm expecting.

Now it is, but you're still second, hehe

I like how I get my own column on the leaderboard now. It's not like there's any pressure involved there or anything. Seriously, it's pretty awesome. I'm literally in a category by myself!

"I was just checking the specs on the rotary girder...  I'm retarded."  lol  I was half asleep still when I put that scoreboard up.  I will do better!
 

Haha, yup!  Figured that'd motivate you further to keep posting up your scores.
 

No problameo playa. Im actually in third with krunches score beating me out Would have been nice to have been in first for once. Anyways that was my first attempt so if I have time I will put up a better score, but Im sure I wont even be able to touch the top 10 when all is said and done.

No worries, I'll still try to post scores whenever I have time to give it a solid effort.

I forgot to place a word about last week, but I think your username-paper is awesome. You should draw one tetris-themed now, hehe

I might actually have a shot at the top score if nobody posts until tomorrow. Despite my general disdain for puzzle games, I was a fairly decent Tetris player.

Thanks guill! Yeah I'm planning to have a new one every week, just had only this on hand when I went to take the pic. I'll have a Tetris-themed one once I upgrade my score.
