It's a long and boring process but I can put it on video. what do you think the best way to make a video using my console is? I'd do it on an emulator but I have to much trouble adapting to
an emulator. Its just not the same feel for me. I'd also like to do a tricks and glitches run as well because I basically can abuse this game. I'd love to make a video so any ideas on how to do it on a console and have a decent quality video, just let me know and I will start making it. It might take me another week to perfect but it would be totally worth it. PM with Ideas

I was able to utilize the turtle trick on multiple levels. 3-1, 4-2, 6-2, 7-1 and 8-2. After this run, I felt like 2 million was very possible but I couldn't quite get there.

Isn't it difficult to keep doing the turtle trick without dying? How do you know when to stop?

EDIT: Oh yeah, and congrats!!!

I wonder what the lowest score one could get going through all of the worlds would be. That would be a challenge, IMO. Lowest score wins!

Nice 1.8 million score though! Wow!

The problem with a low score contest with SMB is the timer. It is quite boring to wait at the flag pole in every stage to get the less time left before hitting the pole.

Once you start the loop it seems like the loop will never go longer than 7 1up sounds. usually less though then you fall through the shell. you stop getting points once you start gaining lives so the less 1up sounds you get before the loop ends the better
It's difficult to do as small mario because you have to jump into the combo at an angle and you risk dying everytime you attempt it, with big mario, you just have to small jump straight up.
 Thanks for the congrats

The turtle trick turns points into lives and you stop point racking.

Here is the current http://www.twingalaxies.com/... record holders who had started with 5 lives, and thus could point rack a lot easier. I call BS on that score. Unless you were using the game genie code to stay big and unlimited lives for both players there is no way you could get that high in one life.

The turtle hop method is banned for TGTS (tournament settings) Also, they start with 3 lives, but can only use a max of 5. I say they are severly dissadvantaged under those rules. if those scores are possible without pressing with one enemy, then I say the score above is legit.

First, public accusation for cheating are not toterated in this contest. If you have doubts about a score, you can pm either Bimmy Lee or myself and we'll take care of the investigation.

Here's my view on 2legit28bit's score:

I played a test run with save states during the week to see how much I could get if I do every stages the best as I can. This was intended as practice for myself, and a good indicator to judge the score of other players.

I'm not a bad player, and I'm very creative when it comes to rack points, but I'm certainly not the best SMB player in the world. This said, I tried to play the best as I could, did the life trick on 3 stages only, and I came at the end with a score of 1,980,000ish.

Seeing 2legit28bit did a score of 1,844,700, I would say that it is possible, and that it can be legit. His score will be accepted, no matter what happen, at the exception that himself discredit his score.

If he achieved to pull the life trick in 5 occasions, I have no problem believing his score. I'm actually amazed that he can pull it in stage 4-2 in a steady run, cause it is probably the hardest way to do it in the entire game.

First off, I dont own a game genie, 2nd, my screen shot shows me as small mario so that shoots down your theory of the  "stay big code". 3rd, after you gain so many lives in this game, if you die, you get a game over screen. I thought everyone knew that about this game. I earned so many lives on 3-1 that if I would have died, it would have ended the game as it has for me most of the week. 4th, in the twin galaxies contest you speak of, "The Turtle Stair Hop trick is banned and use of it will result in IMMEDIATE disqualification of your score" Straight from the TG Special Rules for this challenge. But thanks for the input. I guess making a video will be in order like Robin Suggested earlier

New score, best I can do for now. Should've gotten to this a day earlier when I wasn't so pressed for time. I started out okay, managed to stomp the turtle in 3-1 multiple times for quite a bit of points, but failed to do so on every other world that gave me that opportunity, then started to play sloppy after that, missing peak flagpole jumps, fireworks, losing firepower, and nearly falling to my death a couple times. Even though points were high for me, I should've been able to accumulate well over a million, but not this time. Even with the turtle stomp on the stair trick being relatively easy for me to do most of the time, I had some difficulties pulling it off on more than just one level per game, missed a few, accidently killed one with fireballs that was supposed to be stompage points. Anyway, that's it for me. At least I pulled off a full game this time.

Score upon beating game without dying 928,950

Thanks! And I agree with you, 4-2 was the hardest place to pull the combo off. It took me about 2-3 hours of practice to just get it down 60% of the time. I would start on the first of the 3 pipes before the beatle and would wait for the 2nd pipes plant to go back inside the pipe then take off with a series of jumps and then a short jump as I approached the beatle. When I got it timed right, it would usually go into to the combo immediately but sometimes it would just stop the beatle and you would just have to do anoher small jump to start the loop

Oh OK, I never paid attention to score with this game (or really any other game), so I wasn't sure if 1ups give points or not. Thanks for the explanation!

I am also very interested in seeing a video of this. You might want to try for the TG record under their special rules, too.

Just an FYI for all of you: I believe the number of extra lives that ends the game is 256. NES cant go above 255 (think Zelda rupies, and Rad Racer speed)

Have fun counting hops!

In my movie soon to be for sale www.ecstasyoforder.com ...; (subtle plug) Harry Hong talks about people doubting his Max-out game in Tetris.  Very few believed it was possible and they were watching it.  Doubt, really is the greatest compliment if you think about it.

And in Robert's defense, that score truly is an unbelievable accomplishment.  I was not kidding when I said Tom Votava is the best NES player in the world, and you buried him (for now).  I believe you, since I've seen too much to ever doubt a gamer again, but I sure would like verification

heres all I could muster after 4 trys.... Im very depressed that I had to stop playing do to a severe back injury I sustained when I went to pick up one of my guitars. I completely blew my back out and have been bed ridden ever since. I know excuses, excuses .... I was just starting to figure out all the big spots for points too.
