Yeaouch!

Best I've managed so far (from earlier in the week) was 130k in the low 7's levels.
Since then I've cleared 100k a few times, but tend to misjudge the speed leaps a little too late to survive.

How were your points pacing to pull off 200k?

How long did that take you by the way? My best run so far of about 50K took me about an hour.

I think I had 15K or so in 1-1 but I'm not completely sure. I do remember I broke 100K before the end of R3 and I had 160K mid-R7. For the first 3 rounds I was really stretching my comfort level trying to bulk up score. I can't tell you how many times I got within inches of failure and once I got to R4 I was scared off of trying to get big points again.

The funnest part of the run for me was stretching out 10-10 as long as I could. I really toyed with the idea of losing intentionally trying to build up big strings since at the last stage it doesn't matter if you actually beat the game. But eventually 10-10 turned into a "can't lose" situation.

Also I am pretty sure that the duration at which it forces new rows completely resets at the beginning of each round, so that's the best time to milk. But I wasn't really willing to risk it after R5.

Thanks for the info.

I think my 130k game I hit 100k at R5-1, and the scoring definitely planes off after 100k, so there seems like a huge advantage in making it at as low a round as possible when the big combos are easier to manage due to the piece restrictions.

What do you guys use to upload photos? I was using imageshack but now they want to charge. Can't believe how much of a pain it is to upload photos, but it's probably just me being dumb. TIA.

A little bit of milking in the first 2-3 stages, otherwise played straight. Don't see how some of you crank out these juggernaut scores. 100,150,200k? Right now I can just barely get past 50k. Overall I really like this game but I definitely don't like the score based speed up or when the game's speed dogpiles you.

Basically, if you are not pacing for 40k-50k before the end of the 1's levels, you're not going to make it.

On a per-level basis, 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3 are the KEY, since they have really favorable starting layouts that let you open with big 5000 pt combos, if you are careful.

Then it is a matter of surviving long enough to make some Yoshi combos.

Try to lather-rinse-repeat with every X-1 and X-2 set of levels, since the speed recaps.
And then survive the rest by clearing as quickly as possible...

I'll see what I can do. I guess I'm the only one around here who pretty much avoided most puzzle games as a kid as almost all of them were unappealing to me. The only one I ever played for any length of time was Tetris. You'll never see me winning the puzzle category, that's for sure.

Updated my score... I was on such a good pace and I friggin blew it!  I had 68K on level 3-2. I think I might be able hit a 100k. Gonna give it a few more shots this weekend hopefully.

This was the strategy I was trying to follow, but my issue was I would make one wrong move (or right move, depends on how you look at it) and the cookies would fall perfectly into some crazy x10 combo and clear the level before I could really milk out much of a score in the early rounds. Should get some more time in this weekend.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

Too bad.    I know you could have gotten a better score given enough time and I was looking forward to seeing it.

I don't have any more time to play so my score will stand.

Nah,bumps move the thread up to the top of all the topics posted. All you have to do here is just edit your post with the old score by taking down the picture.
