Great game, but take a look at this,
http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&am...
this will avoid the pressing the buttons 2 times to get it to boot, this will auto boot directly to the game and is cheaper than most flash carts. just need a DS or DSL the flash cart, and a supercard (or similar device) to program the falsh cart and then the GBA flash cart is good to go! Fair warning, the internals of this cart do not fit in a normal GBA cart
I've done this back last April for this same game (wow almost a year ago and time flies ) and think this may be a good method for you to make your run of Mother 3! Saves work and like i stated a few lines ago, a direct boot to the game ^-^
Hope this helps

I will be in touch later to work with you on that part. I think this is a very good idea for the project.
Just so everyone knows, Jeff and I have been in contact and working out all the logistics, costs, etc.
What we are currently planning on doing is about 20 special edition big box releases WITH the custom fanmade strategy guide (this guide is incredible) that can either be hardbound or paperback (we will give you the option). We are going to number those 1-20 and we are going to first give preferential treatment to those involved in the project. We will then give preferential treatment to those who have put in time to make NA wonderful as well as made a contribution to the Earthbound/Mother community (even if you are newer to NA). Then we will either auction the rest off or do a split between selling half of the remainder to those on here who have reserved/shown a huge interest and auction the rest off. Right now we do not know what the cost of these big box ones will be but the guides alone are around $30+ each not including the game, box, manual, extra goodie we put in, and ALL of the custom art and special big box we have to get done. These will probably NOT be cheap just to give you advanced warning.
After the big boxes are done, we will then focus on doing the regular CIB release (Cart, manual & box) limited #'d 1-50. These we will sell to everyone based on what number they requested and the order they are on the list. For those that are already on the big box list, if you end up not getting a big box, you get first choice on the regular release # you want. Once those are all finished, paid for, shipped, etc. then we will focus on regular DS case (different art) mass market editions that aren't #'d and are really there to offer it out to the community. Right now there isn't anyone really making the Mother 3 repro and it's pretty much done by hand for those that have it so we are hoping that a repro maker will hopefully pick this part up down the road so poor subcon3 doesn't have to continually do this. He is in the military on active duty and has to make sure he has time and can get called out at any time and people will have to wait for it to be done.
So no matter what, EVERYONE will be able to get one of these to play eventually. Also, just so everyone knows, ALL of the profits from this project are going to be donated to Nintendo Age as well as the Earthbound communities (we haven't decided which yet) to help keep this movement alive. We would all like to see this eventually hit the virtual console as well as a potential remake release for the DS or something like that if at all possible.
So for collectors, you will ALL get a chance to purchase a big box just from the ones we will auction off on NA auctions. This way everyone gets an opportunity to pick one up as a collector. For regular release, we will honor all those that reserved a spot. There is no guarantee on any numbers right now but we will go in order of the request made. For those that don't make the list but still want one, you will be able to pick up a mass market one a little later.
I want everyone to keep in mind that we have to special order all the carts (may take up to a month) and Jeff has to individually program every single one so there is a lot of time involved which he is donating free of charge. Every box will be hand made. Every manual will be hand made. All of that takes time and will need at least a month. This will also cost a lot of money. Right now we are estimating a up front cost of around $1000-1500 which I will probably be fronting until we eventually get the sales done and I can get repaid. Long story short, this project will take a few months and is very expensive. We are going to do this one step at a time and in the end, everyone will be able to get one and it will be a wonderful project for the community.
So stay tuned and if there is anyone who WOULD like to be involved in doing some graphics work or having more involvement in this project and has something to contribute, please contact either myself of thesubcon3 with what you would like to participate with. We plan on setting up a private thread for those involved to get the development site going and those who donate time (and possibly money) will get first dibs on a big box version.
PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH US. This project WILL take a lot of time and we will try to keep everyone posted on the progress. We are currently hoping to get all of these finished by the end of summer at the latest and hopefully by June 1st if possible but there are NO GUARANTEES as to the deadlines. When we are getting close to completion of a part, we will start opening up the payments and go from there.
So stay tuned and if you want one of these copies please post in this thread and we will keep track of all of you.
If we can get ahold of these flash carts in a large quantity it might be doable, however we want to have it in a normal GBA cart if possible. However, if the GBA flash cart looks ok, I can customize it either with color or if it is a normal GBA cart color then just adding the label. Might be doable though! Otherwise I am going to have to get creative with our current option.
Everything else is just like gwyndion says. I do plan on doing 2 different custom plastic case releases either with different art as I have gotten my hands on a few Red cases that would make for an awesome special version. This means there will be a total of 4 different versions to get your hands on and collect!
Honestly, I think shooting for the NA 2012 Campout would be pretty feasible for the initial batch as people there could get their copies since I am definitely attending and I know a lot of the NA faithful will be there as well.
