NOTE : DUE TO EASY POINTS EXPLOIT IN THE SURFING EVENT, RULES HAVE BEEN CHANGED.

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  I want to apologize that Crash n' the Boys Street Challenge won't be the game this week.  I was unable to come up with what I thought would be a set of satisfactory rules for the game.  Unfortunately, this game will have to go on the back burner for now and requires more playtesting.  In its place will be T & C Surf Designs.  Here are the rules, but first, I want to share with you all something I call "Ode to T & C Surf Designs." *Ahem*:

Hello everyone, it’s your old pal Bimmy Allen Poe,
Not to be mistaken for my cousin, Bimmy David Thoreau.
T & C Surf Designs is our game of the week,
And if you like skateboarding or surfing, this is a game you should seek.
If you don’t own this game, then there is one thing I simply must implore:
You should go buy it at your local game store!
In the Skate Session, you will be moving down a dangerous street,
So be careful as you rack up points and shred some concrete!
In surfing, you get a chance to ride the big wave.
Just don’t fall off your board and meet an early grave.
In Street Skate Session, you can play as Joe Cool,
And this guy with the awesome shades is no skateboarding fool.
Or maybe you would rather play as the masked Tiki Man.
Just make sure you don’t crash him into a garbage can.
If surfing is your thing, then play as the rad Thrilla.
He is definitely a cool, banana-eating gorilla.
Or maybe you prefer to play as the tuxedo-wearing Kool Kat.
He would look much cooler wearing a backward hat.
The object this week is to get a big score,
Just make sure in surfing you get to the shore.
This game may require some practice,
So if you do bad, don’t get mad and throw a cactus.
Just pick up your controller and give it another go,
And show off a score that will make me say “whoa!”

  • 1 player only
  • Play Skateboard Event
  • Select whichever characters you want
  • Play until Game Over
  • Take your picture on the Game Over screen, but be quick since it doesn't stay up long
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Sports

The contest ends Sunday, 8/31/14 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Wow, this is the first time I have ever played this game. I've got a solid handle on the skateboarding section, but the surfing controls are insanely wonky.

I rented this game once as a kid and hated it. It bored me to tears. I got a cart of it a few years ago in a lot. I was going to get rid of it immediately, but I figured I might as well hang onto it and give it another shot... someday. I suppose that someday is this week

I had never played this until today. The first few tries I had no clue what the crap I was doing, especially on the surfing part. I figured it out now though. And now that I've gotten a grip on the controls,I kind of like this game.

First time playing this game too, and now that I'm getting the hang of surfing, it's pretty damn fun. Don't know why everyone hates on LJN, they published some fun games... if they were made by Japanese developers like this one. I know Atlus made both T&C titles as well as The Karate Kid, and Westone did Jaws.

On a serious note though, **** those seagulls!

I have the controls down now, but I still find no enjoyment in the surfing section of this game. The skateboarding part is OK, but the surfing is just a wrestling match with the game to survive the round.  I typically champion LJN, and support most of their games, and the same goes for Atlus, but I just don't enjoy this offering.

I like it,but it would have been nice to have more than 2 events. And anyone else play with the tiki mask/cat in tux combo? I just like the color palette better on the skateboard part when I use that team. And a surfing cat in a tuxedo? Awesome!

I personally enjoy the other skateboarding guy, but I enjoy the cat more than the gorilla. Such tough choices...

Do the characters actually differ in any way other than appearance?

I like the variability that the beginning of the level is the part that gets tougher each round, rather than it tacking onto the end.
The surfing is pretty boring though, and it seems like it's a matter of finding the sweet-spot to wipe out that doesn't cost you a life, so you reach the end with lives intact for max bonus points.

just a FYI..the game over screen stays up for alittle bit so try to snap your picture then.

This is one I loved playing alot so I'll be posting a score this week (don't know how good) but I'm glad to see a few people enjoying this one.
Also, the surfing isn't that bad once you get use to the controls. It may become an old hat since it's only 2 events.

I'm partial to a gorilla with a sweet neon green hat surfing.

You can also pause it right before game over....like as you are wiping out on your last life. That would probably be easier.

Since the Game Over screen doesn't stay up long, you can also take a picture as you are wiping out.  Either screen will be acceptable for submissions.

There's a way on the surfing to get 500 pts by doing a 360 shred near the curl of the wave but I haven't been able to pull it off that close. Also, on the skateboarding, grind the high rail near the beginning of the run for 1000 pts each time.

Is there a functional limit to how much longer the levels become?

I don't think so. It seems to cap off difficulty at around level 6 or so, with the skateboarding just staying the same with some variations in the beginning. The surfing part seems to stay the same. I do know that the score ticker will reset after reaching 999,999 so need to snap a pic prior to it changing over.

Are we at risk of that happening?

I guess so, if the difficulty caps out?

It's possible actually, esp once you get the hang of the surfing because you can reach the pier fast but keep going back and forth with that 360 move, extending the level a bit.

yeah, I dont' really "get" the surfing part.

I basically just try to do a controlled failure that doesn't result in losing lives
