This week's game is going to be Qix, a classic arcade game! Here are the rules:

• 1 player only
• Play until Game Over
• Be quick to take your picture, as the Game Over screen does not stay up long
• Alternately, you can take your picture on the High Score screen as long as you score enough points to register a high score
• Highest score wins
• Participation: 50,000
• GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 10/07/18 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun.

Last game before the tournament.

My favorite game this year was Double Dragon, Palamedes, Jackal or Ninja Gaiden 2. Super Pitfall was a pleasant surprise. Not great, but it was more fun than expected. Batman Returns was another pleasant surprise.

Least favorite: That boring golf game. The Mutant Virus also really sucked.

I actually like Qix. I played the arcade version from time to time back in the day.

I used to play the DOS port of Qix a long time ago.

Qix is probably the game with the highest number of porn themed ripoffs.

Lol. Ya to hell with this game.

It's an arcade game that has some puzzle elements. The gameplay involves avoiding enemies while filling up the screen with lines and squares.

 

I wonder how the tiers will break down there might be 10 of us that played regular enough this year. 

I liked that that golf game actually. Lol. I kind of like simple math. Not like that lunar pool shit though.

My best score is around 90k but I want at least 100k before I post something.

Part of me wishes I wouldnt have sold my Qix CIB earlier this year, itd be nice to play this on the TV. But on the other hand, it translates well to computer keyboard. Either way, this game is hard, and while I like it, I always wish I was playing this instead: https://www.surfnetkids.com/games...

For anyone who's not aware, the previous Qix contests have quite a bit of detailed strategy in them and are worth re-reading.

Qix is hard for me. I feel like there's some luck involved in trapping the Qix within a small space because it's so unpredictable.

The top scores from the previous contests are in the 400k range. No way am I competing with that.
 

Qix infuriates me. That said I might be able to get a halfway decent score ... 200K maybe?

If I play a bunch of times and get lucky I could have 200k. I'm not sure that I want to bother.

The NES port looks like an improvement over the original arcade game. Arguably better graphics. Less irritating sounds.

Never played much qix, but back in the day whenever ultimate qix was on Sega channel that's all my dad and I would play for that month. 

Best strategy I've found with that is to slowly build a fort to box it off, but yeah, it seems like the Qix has a mind of its own at times. It's like trying to cage a crazed tiger.
