Seriously wish there was an 16 bit offering this year... all y'all showing off your shiny NES games making me jealous and such.

Was that with or without your "slow mo" controller?

Holding a particular button when you start a game gives you extra power ups and lives. The score is the way to tell!

Whenever you see scores in the millions, you know they pressed a key to get more power ups and lives.

Without, believe it or not. I scored 35,000 points and level 24 without the extra lives and "million point cheat", using the slow motion, but I never saved the score.

Yup. And once you input your initials and hit the button the score becomes permanently burned into the cart! So years down the road if you decide to sell your cart, the buyer will see your scoreboard filled with million point cheats!

So the real high score is like the Price is Right edition: whoever can score closest to one million without going over gets the trophy!

I have a picture at home from weeks ago where I scored a million in all 10 spots...but Paul has already given away the secret. I believe Mog has the current high score

On a side note, when I first heard about the flash memory on the cart I realized I am going to have to be careful not to cheat when I get my actaul cart.

Is there a way to reset the high scores?

Especially down the road a method to clear the high scores may be desirable in case the cart decides to change hands since many new owners may like a fresh start. Many N64 and GBA games come with an internal menu prompt to clear high scores. This is accessed by holding down a certain combination of buttons when the game boots, which prompts a warning dialog. Confirming the dialog will clear the save data; cancelling the dialog will keep it. The details on how to do this are usually presented in the manual.

Sure, if you want to make the high scores even more bogus than is already possible!

Infinite lives won't work though since you have to actually die in order to post your score. It may be possible to use the demo ROM in conjunction with an EMU debugger to locate the values that need to be changed.

From what I understand and have experienced in the multiple versions of the rom, You can NEVER clear the high scores off the physical cart. We are lucky Brian spent the extra time to do a scores system, let alone one thar remembers all scores.

ALERT! SPACE SHOOTER FANS:

This ain't your ordinary boring Galaga. Take a ride in Santa's Blaster... Shoot EVERYTHING!!!

Download the demo if you're not convinced enough. It's well worth the 43 bucks. You will regret it if you wait until after the 31st of December.

I'll be doing a "Let's Play" Video later...

Maybe I should pick this up this year, since I've always kinda wanted an 8bit Xmas cart for like 5 years.

I made a little "Let's Play" video showing off the blinky lights and gameplay. Sorry about the crappy capture. My camera always overexposes the CRT screen.

I've wanted one too but this year the game sold me.  Sleigh Invaders or whatever the game is actually called is pretty fun.

It must be fun coming up with ideas for these games.   Next year they could modify this years game a bit into a Centipede clone and call it Santapede

It may not have the 4-score compatibility (or even a two player) that the old Xmas carts had, but who around here always has three friends hanging around to play with? The game is extremely fun and addictive, and sans the blinky lights and Christmas theme (just change the sleigh into a space ship and redo the music and title screen), this game still kicks ass as a homebrew, and would have made an awesome space shooter had it been released on NES back in the day. I said this once before, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to go back to playing Galaga again...
