I was just debating this with some dudes on my forum: why anyone would buy two. They thought greed, because who the heck would need two of the same thing, except for possible profit later on. I think, from what I've read here, that most were just so initially fascinated by it that they had to have two...some craze just clicked in those NES-collecting minds of theirs. I think there's a good reason to have two: for mini-competitions in your living room. Sure you can play one at a time, but two at a time on two TVs sitting next to each other would be much more exciting.

So, yeah, I don't plan to sell my second one. I was wondering if anyone would try to sell their dupe, maybe make a profit off of it (like those on the other forum were suggesting: motivation greed).

Sounds logical. Both versions should have exactly the same number of frames to play. I may have to have a couple of beers to adjust for the increased reaction time

I was only going to get one at first. Then I got the second about 10 mins later when I saw the initial flurry hadn't decimated the stock. I got the other mainly to trade to anyone who wasn't awake (Dain?) that's eager to get it and doesn't want to clickety-clack trying to find a copy week after week.

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

I have a good reason why I wanted 2. Tournaments. Two people playing two consoles side by side on the big screen, competing against each other. How cool would that be?

Exactly .  Turning back the clock, one game at a time...that's how I see it.

Hi Folks!

I forgot I signed up for this site....it really does kick ass.

So anyway, I apologize to everyone that I took an extra week to finish the manual. It didn't help that I made a few mistakes and had to tell BunnyBoy, "WAIT! Scratch that manual from yesterday....Here's the final corrected version." Then the next day I was looking it over and noticed a few other major mistakes and some minor ones. Cursing myself that I missed such details I had to write BB again sending him the REAL final version.

So, I really hope he didn't print up a bunch of these and then I threw a monkey wrench in his gears. I also hope he didn't actually ship any out until he got my final manual.

But anyway, you folks are going to really dig it, I think. There's some very exclusive content in it. There's tips and quotes from Thor Aackerlund and Rich Ambler, the two finalists of the NWC (12-17 age group....by far the highest scoring group of the 3). I gave Thor a ring a few days before the manual was finished to get some tips straight from him. Also, there is some info in there that has never been publicly revealed, including how to determine the exact Tetris pattern you will get every time, and how to determine whether you get the easy or difficult race in Rad Racer (bet you didn't know that existed!). Yes, those can be done.

Shhh, it's a secret to everyone.

Oh, and I almost forgot. I'd love to keep a directory of who owns what carts. I've tried for some time now (somewhat miserably) to keep a list of who owns the real ones. Send me an email with your handles you use online, the state (and/or country) you live in, and your real name, if you'd like. It'd be nice to know who owns them and where to get a realish NWC tournament going someday. If enough of these get out, there'll be enough folks in every state that owns one, heh.

Put the subject of the title as NWC REPRO OWNERS LIST to rbudrick at hotmail dot com.

sounds very cool Rob! i didnt get to get a manual either, because it wasnt finished yet. Ive been playing it like crazy though, and my highest score has been 177,000 which i know can be shattered because my buddy got 303,000. Ive noticed that it seems like the most points are made in tetris, so i always try to hurry through SMB and rad racer and try to score big in Tetris. Problem is i never played tetris a lot so ive been doing alot of practicing lol. Brian said hed send me an extra manual though when he gets the final finished.

Can you say potential released manual variant? It's a ploy to get us to buy more later just to get the "fixed" variant!! Shenannigans! (j/k)

Thanks to you too for all the hard work, it's really incredible to me that you were in contact with Thor and have compiled such in-depth info about this game. Sounds like a great read.

Potential competition idea: if the entire SMB game is on the cartridge, perhaps we can have a "best SMB progress without reaching 50 coins" competition. Whomever makes the most progress in the 6:21 (it's possible to wrap-around - you keep your score to prove it too) wins. One hitch: Can you pause on the NWC (!) If not it would be tough to get a shot of your position without an assistant to take your picture at 6:20

Curse you Dangevin for seeing through our wily manual variant plan. I'll get you next time!!!!

NWC can not be paused, but SMB can be beaten. Video is you best bet for such a contest.

I first got in touch with Thor in Fall of '05 not long after after my Ben Smith interview:

http://www.planetnintendo.com/...e/bensmith.html

Before that, Thor was notoriously difficult to get a hold of. He's a very busy guy. Since then I have amade a mission of contacting all of the 90 finalists and collecting interviews. I hope to write a book on the NWC someday, hence why BunnyBoy came to me, I'm betting. I tend to have a lot of knowledge of the event via my research, and I was absolutely thrilled and honored to write the manual. In fact, come to think of it, I would have been sad if I didn't get to and found out about the repro later. HAH!
