Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week’s game is going to be Gauntlet 2.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 player only
  • Choose whichever character you want
  • Play until Game Over (when you run out of health)
  • Take your picture when the game takes you back to the character select screen (your score will be at the bottom of the screen)
  • In the event that a player max out the score (99,990), he needs to immediately take a picture that shows on which level he maxed the score. Maxing out the score earlier in the game will take precedence.
  • Any sort of backwards warping, if possible, is forbidden
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 10/25/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

First attempt - about 4 minutes of gameplay, ended up jumping to level 6 and am really more confused than anything. I have no idea what the hell is going on in this game!

I first played this game a few weeks ago while cleaning out extras. I quickly realized how awesome it is! I was also very stoked to see that it was coming up soon in our contests. I'm very much looking forward to this one!

I'll definitely be joining this competition this week. I've always enjoyed the Gauntlet games.

I'm not sure what's going on either. I read the manual and it wasn't much help. When I tried looking up info on the game last night, I really couldn't find anything useful on GameFAQs or YouTube.

Hmmm...  Have you guys not played Gauntlet before?  It's fairly easy to pick up...   Takes forever to get anywhere going for high score though.

I played the first one as a kid, but I don't recall being any good at it. I'll give this one a few more tries and see if I can do better.

I played gauntlet in the arcade but that was about it. I'm too lazy to figure out what the hell I'm supposed to be doing in this game.

It's total crap compared to the first one. It's too slow, with no music and awful sound effects. And there's no goal, since it just loops. It could only be tolerable if you're playing multiplayer.

Yeah, I played for an hour and almost fell asleep.  When does it loop?  The voice over is at least somewhat entertaining...when you can understand it.

Once I "learned" that you had to destroy objects that spawned enemies, it all came flooding back

Score updated. I can see how this can be a time sink...

Yeah, I was starting to think maybe I was playing a different game.  I only have a score up because I was tired of playing...

This must be a really low scoring game. I think I had been playing for 45 minutes and I barely broke 21k.

Yeah, I'm wondering if it would be worth it to just skip everything you can and go right for the exit, and maybe there are some points in the upper levels.

The quick answer is yes and the score maxes out at 99,990 just in case you get there.

I started playing right around 1:00 and posted my picture as soon as I maxed the score out, so a little over four hours.
