Organized or not, it's still a sexy beast you guys have created in this e-zine! Great job, just like last time. I'm sure it will only get better from here

I actually just download it from this site.  So as long as that one is up to date, I'm all good.

It is mentioned that the Asian regions (ASI,HKG,KOR) are NTSC, I swear they are PAL, but I don't have any of those carts to check

**Correction Corner**
After talking with Bootgod and opening up some games turns out I was mistaken about the region code for -ASI and for -HKG. They play perfectly on an unmodded NES but the PRG chips tell a different story. They are both PAL. -KOR does seem to be NTSC though. Pretty shocked to be honest, want to think Mark for helping me clear it up.

** more corrections **

It was pointed out that I mentioned the 5 screw DK Jr as being rarer (in the chart). Although, it was correctly mentioned in the widget box. The 3 screw version is rarer.

Dain, the -FRA games in the DB are marked PAL A/B, what is that all about? Shouldn't it be just PAL-B?

That was because I was told that FRA games work in both PAL A and PAL B systems. Now that we know ASI and HKG games are just "PAL" (no A or B), this would solve the FRA mystery, no?

well I'll have to double check, but -FRA should be 'B', and ASI and HKG should be just plain PAL like you said.

Hmm well any given -FRA cart wouldn't work in both PAL A & B systems, however it does appear that both A and B carts were released under the -FRA code :/

I've only got 33 -FRA games in my system right now, 32 of them use the 3195A CIC (PAL-B) and one punk-ass one uses the 3197A (PAL-A) wtf! The game in question is Nintendo World Cup (NES-XZ-FRA) which oddly enough doesn't specify 'A' or 'B' on the label either. Maybe this game is a fluke, but there are a lot of -FRA games so there could be more.

I ran a scan to look for other inconsistencies in other regions, this was the only one.

So basically, because of this one bitch, you can't assume the intended system based on the region code

I was curious as to why that map lists Russia as SECAM. It isn't.

After further review -KOR is also PAL B....still a little mystery involved with it, more later if need be.

Hey guys, great reading once again.  A couple ideas for future issues might be...

1. Bring back the Power 30 or whatever it was called from Nintendo Power.  Being we all still play NES games it would be fun to see what is popular with all of us now.  Homebrew games should be elgible for the poll too.
2.  Interview with Chet and Ace from Awesome Video Games!

It looks like North Korea uses PAL and South Korea uses NTSC. Not sure which one the Comboy was for, I would assume it was South Korea though. The -KOR carts use the 3195, the very same one as PAL-B Europe. However, they seem to use USA/NTSC ROMs. I'm thinking -KOR is actually NTSC and they just decided to use that CIC (which technically has nothing to do with the video standard). If this is the case, European PAL-B carts would at least boot in the Comboy, but could have potential compatibilty issues. Likewise, -KOR carts should boot in a PAL-B NES.

If anyone has a Comboy, it would be easy to find out. Hook it up to an older TV which wouldn't support both standards, if it's an NTSC TV and it works properly, then it's NTSC; same story for PAL.

This is going to be a constant question as we get new members. Older issues are retired for two reasons. First, they're big and the server strain is huge for every new member downloading each old issue. Second, in keeping with the periodical nature of the e-Zine, and the collectible atmosphere of the NES hobby, it's a decision of style to "retire" each one monthly. It's incentive for our readers to visit the site each month and see what's going on, but furthermore a reward to longtime visitors who get to "collect" each Zine as it comes out.

Never fear though, we plan to reuse older issues in a creative way at some point in the future. So people that didn't find our website "in time" to see the oldest issues will still have opportunity.

I never did get issue one in my email though, and forgot to download it. Seeing as I contributed, I think I should get a copy forwarded to me

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

It is a perk of being a member here Super Wouter. The old issues are not available for download anywhere at this time. They may become available again at a later date if we ever decide to put them into print.
