Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!
After a week-long break, I hope you all are ready to get back into the fun,
Because this week’s game is an arcade classic loved by everyone!
You see, Pac-Man is the name of the game,
And it’s a title that has gained a lot of acclaim.
The concept of the game is not that hard,
But make sure you don’t let down your guard.
All you have to do is gobble down all the yellow balls
As you navigate around all the blue walls.
But alas, you will have plenty of opposition,
And they are looking to send you off to the mortician!
You see, you are in the domain of four vicious ghosts,
And they are not what I would call very friendly hosts.
As you zip through the maze, they look to harvest your soul,
So you best be careful as you take your leisurely stroll.
But there is one way you can stop each and every last spirit,
So don’t you dare be afraid to collect it.
You see this secret weapon is called the Power Pellet,
And it will turn you in to one crazed ghost-eating zealot.
If you eat one of the ghosts, it will go back to its prison,
But beware, because it will come back newly arisen.
This power-up will only last a very short time,
So make sure you munch down on some ghosts during this brief lunchtime.
But when this wears off, the baddies return extra vicious,
And hungrily say “Wow, Pac-Man sure looks delicious!”
As you move through the maze, there is one way to really up your score,
And collecting this item is not really a chore.
You can claim some bonus points by collecting a specific fruit,
And I don’t mean the one visible on the male birthday suit!
You see, this fruit can either be an orange, pineapple, or a cherry,
Oh, and I can’t forget the always tasty strawberry!
The goal will be to put up an amazing score,
And to do this you will need to get points galore.
I swear, collecting points isn’t that hard,
Just make sure you don’t get caught off guard.
For if you run into a ghost and die,
You will surely go to that holy place up in the sky.
But I know you are all way better than that,
So grab that Power Pellet and make those ghosts go splat!
Now it is time for you all to fire up the NES and sit on your gaming stools,
Because it is now time for me to reveal the rules:

  • Play whichever version you choose (Tengen Licensed, Tengen Unlicensed, or Namco)
  • Play until Game Over
  • Highest score wins
  • Participation: 10,000
  • GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 4/10/16 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

Participation score out of the way; lots of room to improve. I doubt I'll be much of a contender this week, though; I'm sure some Pac-experts will be coming out in force. Glad the contests are back! Pac-Man should be a good time. I've been playing some of the Atari 8-bit computer port this week. Not sure which I like better, diving into the NES one.

I've got the Namco version too and I haven't noticed any issues with the controls. The Tengen Ms. Pac-Man controls seemed to have a bit of lag when we played it, but I assumed that was because I was playing on an emulator with a USB controller that week.

I'm playing the Namco version on an emulator and it's hard to control. Sometimes the game just ignores my inputs and does what it wants. Maybe some of it is typical emulator lag but I think that it's also the game. MAME "Pac-Man" plays fine.

Well, bearcat like I said I'm not that good at it, so maybe that is relevant to why I think the controls are shotty but it just seems like I'm trying to go left or right and PAC just goes straight into a wall.

800k?! That's sick I got 30k and that's probably all the PAC man I'm interested in

Yeah, that score is bonkers. I feel like I'm not the best at wrapping my head around the patterns, so I just freestyle till the ghosts get me.

I feel like there have been some amazing scores in these contests. I couldn't even come close to a million in "Kung Fu" or over two million in "1943."

Bert will probably show up with a score of 900,000 in "Pac-Man."

I think second place was 140k, so that might be a little more realistic.

I can't promise anything.  We have houseguests for the next couple weeks, and I'm trying to use what time I have to knock some SNES titles out.  I'm thinking I'll be joining you at the participation bar
