Hello everyone and welcome to the 2013 NintendoAge Weekly Contests!  We have a new format this year which will see two tiered tournaments being played (one in the summer and one at the end of the year) that should give almost everyone who plays in the weekly contests a chance to compete in the tournaments and win prizes.  More details about the format for the 2013 contests can be found here:

http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=31&am...

Now, on to the game.  We are kicking things off this year with Super Mario Bros. 3, one of the greatest platformers on the NES.  Here are the rules:
  • 1 life only
  • You are not allowed to re-enter the Sky Tower in World 5
  • You are not allowed to use warp whistles to re-play worlds
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Action/Platformer

The contest ends Sunday, 2/10/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will not be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Also, if anyone would like to sport a NintendoAge Weekly Contest banner in their signature, feel free to use one of these (courtesy of ookii_risu).  These will also be available in the Leaderboard thread.

Bubble Bobble

Contra

Double Dragon 3

Gradius

Super Mario Bros.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Woot.

Edit: I have a question: can I submit more than one screenshot or should I wait right to the end when I know I'm done trying to submit?

-------------------------
I am searching for the following SNES manuals:
- Sunset Riders    - TMNT IV: Turtles in Time      - Total Carnage
- Utopia                 - Final Fantasy II
Please PM me if you have one or all of them for sale. While I like nice condition, I am interested in anything 7/10ish up.

You can submit as many screenshots as you want throughout the week.  If you submit multiple scores, please edit your post each time you improve your score.  It makes it easier to update the leaderboard that way.

A PC10 should be fine as long as there isn't anything within the cabinet that would give a player an advantage over someone playing on an NES console.

By 1 life only does that mean what your total score is after your first death? And if so how is that verified? Honor system?

Correct.  Whatever your total score is after your first death is your score.  Everything is based on the honor system, but if someone is suspected of cheating, they will be asked to provide further evidence of their score.

It's been probably 20 years since I played through all 8 levels, begining to end. This is going to be interesting.

-------------------------

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at the Let's Play Gaming Expo last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Oh, my WTB thread is very popular. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, Richard craniums - they all adore it. They think it's a righteous thread.
I'd also like to add that I've got my father's gun and a *scorching* price guide for aftermarket Nintendo games.
Between Dragon Warriors and nothing... I'll take Dragon Warriors - for any of my FT/FS/FO items.

Great game to start the contest off. The is probably my all time favorite NES game. This was my first attempt. I think I can get all the way to the end on one life, but we'll see if I take another shot at it. When I was a kid I'd always skip the pipe world... cause you know, screw those levels. I think the lava levels at the end of the game are easier then some of these. I died on a dumb level where the plants keep popping up and down. I knew I should have just used my P-wing. Oh well...

Score: 1,003,510

Gaming rig (in case anyone cares) I'm using the toploader

Okay, past my bedtime. Going to sleep now.

Well, explain what you mean exactly by 'optimized' and we may reconsider the situation.
