Put me down for 5 Screw Metal Gear. Came from a kids collection being sold by a dad. I don't think it was pieced together, I believe it was purchased new and came in this box.
Should it be noted that both of us have the REV-A box (black seal) and the labled on the carts have the grey seal?  ......not sure if that's anything to note.

I'm still really uncertain about boxes, but I know RayBot said he bought his Contra as a kid, had it his entire life, and up till like a year ago was the only known 5 Screw copy. I believed some of these variants were sold, but would not say all of them just yet. Refurbs or demo carts are still in the realm of possibility.

I always ask for background on the carts. In this case, they didn't know what they had, so I told them what it was and asked for some info. This game was part of a collection that was sold by a dad, the buyer was piecing out what they bought from the dad. Alongside the rest of what they had, this felt like it was the childhood copy and it stayed together all these years. Because of that, I felt it was worth mentioning.

I guess that might lend credence to the thought that they were carts that got sent off to be refurbed? If they bought a copy of the game, brought home, didnt work. Then they sent off to get it refurbed and it came back as a 5-screw, the box would probably just be the same old 3-screw box. Demo ones seems more likely they would of not even had a box / manual / etc for it

Spoke with the seller of mine.  He purchased the box and instructions a few years back seperately from the cart in his collection.  He owned the cart for about 10 years, but can't remember where he purchased it.  So, they mystery is still out there.

I'd be curious if others who have rare/oddball 5 screw versions in this thread have compared boards with the 3 screw versions.  As guitarzombie said the date code of mine is 8831, but the earliest listed on bootgod in 8832.  That has me extremely curious at the moment.  I wonder if the others also have earlier date codes?

I really wish I could locate 5 screw carts of Jaws and Simon's Quest!

There's one in the comments that's really really strange. So strange I don't know how it could be real.

If you are referring to the urban strike. I've known about it for a while. It's definitely an odd one but I think it's real

I just picked up a Silent Service 5 Screw cart. It has no back warning label and the middle pins on the connector are absent. So that's one more of those...

-------------------------

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

Konami must have had a significant supply of 5 screw shells left sitting around long after everyone else ran out.

Hi Hybrid - can you add me to the lists?  The stack of games on the right are what Ive collected slowly over 4 years.  The Cobra Command is an offset label issue - I included a stand-alone photo of this in case you think qualifies for your cool I AM ERROR website.

The stack on the left I aquired from Laketown two months ago - can you switch those to me.  It was costly but I had to have them as I am obsessed with variants and errors.  The top game is the upside down Top Gun label game.  The Track N Field 2 has the black seal with the proper backing.  This appears to be a legit factory cart rather than a refurb - werent a non-Rev A box or two discovered and documented which legitimizes this?  Kind of like Stinger.  I cant remember.

The Silent Service I just received this week from NA member Zachary Watts.  Can you switch to me as well?

One theory is that they were refurbished after the print runs of the games or they are some sort of demo/promo carts. I'm leaning towards the latter

Interesting it seems that it is not a printing error but the label was miscut everything is lifted up and skewed on the label including the title on the fold over

Yeah, yeah, who cares about that. I want the story on Star Force and Math.

-------------------------

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at the Let's Play Gaming Expo last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Oh, my WTB thread is very popular. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, Richard craniums - they all adore it. They think it's a righteous thread.
I'd also like to add that I've got my father's gun and a *scorching* price guide for aftermarket Nintendo games.
Between Dragon Warriors and nothing... I'll take Dragon Warriors - for any of my FT/FS/FO items.

I bought Star Force last year in a 6 game lot on eBay.  Some NA'ers discussed the sale and the sale price.  I had been actively looking for years for one in great condition so it was worth it to me.   http://nintendoage.com/forum/mess...

DK Jr Math 3 screw popped up on eBay as a CIB two years ago.  It was listed for less than 15 mins before I swooped in - I just happened to check my newly listed saved search at the right time.  The game came out of Green Bay, Wisconsin from a local video game rental store. (still has the rental sticker on the front).  I contacted the seller after the sale to ask about the backstory - he thought I was very strange.  The seller had purchased this game along with a bunch of others from that rental place, CIB.  The box of the DKJM 3 screw was the standard box, no difference/variance from the normal 5 screw - same with the board.  Must have been a refurb.

Im 99.9% sure all DKJM are refurbs as they seem to have only been printed once in mid 86.  All the other 3 screw DKs ive seen indicate that.

BTW I was in on that Star Force lot.  You paid quite a lot for it.

Thanks hybrid. One question, are you tracking Goonies II 5 screw as well, or are those so common that it's not worth to track?
