Hey guys,

You'll notice on the main page I've added a picture in the lower left corner, of which I'm calling a "cornerstone." I think this would be a neat way for people to contribute a collage about their favorite game, etc, and add a little spice to the site. For each game, if a cornerstone exist, it will be displayed on that game page. If none exist, it will just show the default one.

For example, if you click on Solomon's Key, you'll see a different cornerstone:

Solomon's Key

What do you guys think? Good, bad, ugly? Don't care either way?

It looks nice but is one image (both are the same one) supposed to stay in it's original spot while the second image moves when you scroll up/down?

Probably not. Maybe it's this computer's settings.

Big fan, I like it alot. Especially if you can change it to several different games based on your personal settings. I was shocked when I logged in today and saw SMB at the bottom. SWEET!!!

I like it as well, but the way one stays put and one scrolls along with the screen is kinda weird. I think you should leave the scrolling one, but not the stationary one.

I prefer the stationary one myself. The first time I looked at it, there was only the stationary one, now I see both and I am using the same broswer...weird.

Ah, interesting...

I think I may need to re-think them, as that's a known issue in IE6 (fixed backgrounds that don't stay fixed). I completely forgot about that

Well, back to the drawing board!

Yeah, the scrolling is kinda odd. Otherwise, I like the idea

I might make a few and add them. I say might because I'm extremely lazy and might not get around to it for awhile

I am about to upgrade to IE7 and see if that helps or not. Goes to download it now, will be back in about 6 hours when it gets done.

The whole site looks different now. IE7 fixed the cornerstone problem and a few of the other issuses I had with the site too. Well worth the hour long down load on my dial up.

Screw IE7. I hate it. After using it for a bit it screwed my PC up big time. The game list which I have been working on forever, which has also been used to help on NA stopped working because of it. I had to do a system restore and thank god it is working again. I almost started crying for real.

How do we change the default cornerstone so that it's not SMB while we're perusing the site? I couldn't figure out how to do it in my profile.

-------------------------

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

I think the SMB one is the only one, and the others (to be added later) will be on their respective game page. That's what I got out of this anyway. I guess we'll have to wait until Dain or NGD hop on here to find out for sure.

It's context-sensitive to the game you're browsing. The only other one up here is for my favorite NES game:

Any plans to make the site's default one user-customizable or is that just a pipe dream that I'm clinging to? (Because I think a feature like that would be a really great addition to the site)

Or just to randomly choose one out of the pool when the page first loads so every time a user visits it looks a little different, nice and fresh.

Ironically, the code to randomize the cornerstone was already built for the home page or any non-game pages (such as the forums), but I didn't implement it because there were only two so far, LOL. If any of you guys want to make a few for your favorite games, the dimensions for them must be:

GIF (transparent -- leave room for the Nintendo AGE logo somewhere)
Width: 200 pixels (must be exactly 200)
Height: 250 pixels (at most, but it can be less)

I may try and finish up a few that I'd started on. I didn't realize anyone cared much for that feature!

I really like them a lot. I thought there was just going to be a few of them for the most popular games. I didn't realize we need one for every game title, SWEET! Lots of work but it will make the site looking freaking awesome. Now we just need someone to make like 800 of them, lol. I might try my hands a one and see if it turns out ok or not....I have my doubts..........

Yeah. Getting a lot of these in and randomizing it will be freaking awesome. Unless you're waiting for the big site update.

Unfortunately, the "cornerstone" has become really bothersome on mobile devices. When browsing from a mobile device, you would frequently zoom-in so a post or article fills the screen horizontally, but the cornerstone covers-up what you're trying to read. Perhaps a click/tap should present an option to disable it? The preference could be stored in a cookie file.

I can filter nintendoage.com###cornerStone on my PCs, but I really don't find the cornerstone to be all that bothersome on a bigger screen.

[edit]
...and, yes, I know this thread is old!

Go disable the cornerstone on your account or use the beta site. Simple solutions to simple problems.
