Hi guys.  Just wanted to ask that from now on we label each thread we make in The Brewery with a title prefix so that it will be easier to sift through them all and find the ones that are most relevant to what we're looking for.  The current prefixes are:

[Homebrew]
[Hack]
[Repro]
[Tech Talk]

If you find that the thread you're creating doesn't fall into one of these categories, you can create one by just typing whatever you want into a bracket anywhere in your title and it will create a prefix for you.  All of the pre-loaded prefixes are color coded for easy viewing, but any that you make with a generic bracket will be a basic gray color.

Thanks for your help in keeping The Brewery organized!  I'll be constantly checking to make sure things are as they should be, but I would really appreciate everyone's help in this.

Let it be known, you will only see the new colorful look if you are using the new site layout. Vintage users will just see text.
By the way, IT LOOKS GREAT! NICE WORK!

That's truly excellent. I didn't realize at first that the site parses it and shows a corresponding colored tag. Hopefully this will alert people when they post. The reaction should be: "Huh, why doesn't my post look all fancy and nicely labeled? OH! I forgot to add a label. Now gee, what did I ACTUALLY post about? Until now, I thought homebrew, hacks, and repros were the same thing! Whoda thunk they're ACTUALLY DIFFERENT." *poster changes the tag to say the right thing*

If it really has that effect, then a great service will have been done to this hobby, hahahaha. Educate the masses!

...*edit* What if we added a drop down or prompt for users who do not enter the tag manually? That'd be an even better nudge. Maybe after enough time goes by these could be split/filtered into sub-forums or something.

Stupid question(s).
- Let say someone writes a Tutorial (fi. assembly, graphics creation, famitracker, and such game programming matters), is this Homebrew or Tech Talk? (or Unlicensed? )
- Let say a discussion about Assembly which does not fit "Ask all your programming questions here", as fi. the recent notes about AI programming I asked Shiru about. Again, better to label them Homebrew or Tech Talk?

Just to make sure I do it correctly. Thanks!

BTW: cool idea. It rationalizes things.

Edit: thinking twice, maybe for a tutorial posting with a gray label "Tutorial" would be the best?

That's a great idea.  I'll see about getting [Tutorial] added to the official color list!

Looks good, now I can organize my continuous confusion when I read them, I still won't understand much of it but they'll be in order.

Very well done and much needed. Sorting through the section topic by topic sometimes made me confused as to what I was looking for.
Makes things much more organized and easier to find now. If I want a homebrew, I know where to look. Cheers.

Can we change Reproduction to just Repro? Would like tags to be minimal. Also it might train people not to say Repo.

I'm not sure if it's better to take the time to ask someone to add the prefix, or just do it for them. Probably just do it for them. If I get bored enough today I'll start plowing through more recent and active threads.

We need to add a "hardware" prefix for hardware projects. Do hardware mods fall under the current umbrella of "tech talk" or "hacks"? Thanks.

Also stupid question, how do I add a prefix?

Just type it like this [prefix] and it will pop up correctly

In my mind, hacks are ROM hacks. Hardware mods definitely fall under tech talk to me.

Yeah I figured it out. Just put brackets around the first term. I added a [hardware] tag to my latest thread.

What if we have something like a new commercial game that isn't exactly fitting to be described as "Homebrew" aka "Dōjin soft" because that invokes hobbyist / amateur image where something that is more commercial in nature. In that case, a title like [New Indie Game Dev] or something along this line would fit accurately the commercial yet small one person and small team scale development studios productions.

That's more like what I am working on for SNES (requiring SD2SNES or using Higan/BSNES emulator).
