The low score thing is in place to break ties if people have runs that end in the same exact spot. A run that ends in stage 5-1 with a score of 500,000 beats out a run that ends on 3-1 with a score of 300,000. While a furthest progression/low score rule set has its disadvantages (people could run down the clock, which could be said if we were playing, say, Castlevania), playing for high score I think is more problematic because you can point rack like crazy in this game. Felix the Cat for the NES doesn't produce the best set of rules for a contest, but it's a fun and easy game and one we've never tried before in the contests. I find it rather enjoyable, so I hope everyone has fun playing it this week.
Bimmy, I think this is a good choice for the contests as well. It is definitely a fun game. I've played it a few times over the last year or so and I've enjoyed it. I was pretty curious as to what the rules would be. I agree that it is pretty easy to rack up points in this game too. however I have not tried point racking it. Extra lives are quite easy to get, so I bet a "standard" high-score run with no life limitations would easily be millions of points. I think it's pretty a pretty solid title over all.
