You guys are missing out big time, your missing huge jumps in game history, alot of entertainment. To my surprise some people havent even played mario 64 or ocarina of time. You owe it to yourself to play these, they are some of the greatest games ever made. Im not sure if you guys are just stuck in the NES/SNES era or what, but your missing out, you should really play these games, they are amazing.

I agree, I pretty much quit playing games at SNES because I didnt really care for the transition from 2D to 3D but Mario Galaxy was just too good to pass up. Its taken some getting used to but i'm having all kinds of fun with it!

I play a few of the new games, but really nothing lives up to the classics. I tend to prefer 2d games over 3d just because many of the 3d games are the same. Now, I'm not talking about N64, I agree, Zelda Ocarnia of time is an awsome game, but new stuff ( ps3, xbox 360) is just a bunch of first person shooters. The wii is good, but everything else is going in a bad dirrection. After a while, the same gaming engine dressed up in different ways gets old. For example, Halo, gears of war, etc. are basically the same games with different graphics, slightly diff. weapons; but, basically all the same!
The gaming industry,  has really gone down the tubes. Rarely does one see any Rpgs, Adventure games, etc. anymore! Just the same violent garbage which has brought shame to the word 'videogame'. Manhunt for example. On the Wii! Even nintendo has fallen victim to societies demand for mindless violence. Thats why I stick to the NES, and all the systems made before 2000.

Sure, a few of the new games coming out are good, but I work on percentages. I won't pay $300+ for a system where only one or two games are good compared to the hundreds they are releasing.

I'm with Kevin on about 1/2 of his point. It's not a percentages thing though, I just don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for the "newest joint" when I'm perfectly happy playing great games on old technology for a couple of bucks per cartridge.

For the true gauge of how great a game is, look at the player not the game. If the player's sticking his tongue out, jerking the controller around and shouting expletives at the screen with a big smile on his/her face, it's a good game. It doesn't matter how many megabits or megabucks it takes to elicit this response.

I do have to agree about the violent garbage crap, nintendo has done no wrong by allowing manhunt on the wii, its stupid shit like gta that would kill them. Nintendo is basically violence free, also 360 only has the same crappy shooters, nothing new.

Consoles stopped being consoles when cd roms replaced carts. I already have a computer, no need to buy another one just to play crappy looking 3d games. And screw the wii. It's a novelty item geared to making fat kids thin. If there were no fat kids there would be no video games. Seriously, come look around my companies studio LoL. The japanese are starting to get annoying again.

Yep, I stole his avatar too, but only because I couldnt get anything I made to upload the day I joined. I was really only testing to see if I could get anything AT ALL to upload, it was frustrating me. I really hated that cherub you get when you join.

For one, the wii isnt geared towards fat kids, if lightly shaking a remote is exercise than I dont know what kind of stuff youve been smoking. Second of all, this console made the winter of 06 nintendos best sales in corporate history, so yeah, the people know what they want buddy.

I agree that if you stick to just the nes you will miss out on a lot of greatness, but at the same time I have no problem waiting a while for the new stuff. NES will probably always be my number one system, so it's pretty easy for me to wait a year or two to get the newest system. That being said, the system also has to appeal to me. I have a gamecube and I'm buying a ps2, but I still dont have an xbox.

I can see how one could think the Wii is a novelty item, but it is very fun to play. As for it being geared towards fat kids, I disagree. As gimmicky as it may be, it's geared toward anyone who may have been intimidated to try a typical controller-style console.

First of all I've been smoking pot. Second of all nintendo has always had games specificaly made to address fat kids. Track & Field for example. Any game on wii that only takes a shake of the wrist is the novelty. The rest were made to get fat kids off their ass. Third of all, sales don't mean shit. That just means it was an over hyped gimmick. I could show a commercial on tv non-stop that just says "BUY THIS" and people, the complete tools that they are, will go nuts trying to find out what "THIS" is and will buy it to find out. People do not know what they want until they are told what to want.

Nintendo isn't trying to change people's physiology with games. They're trying to sell games period.

Moreover, fat kids don't play activity games any more or less than skinny kids. They play the games they want to play, regardless of their body type.

Finally, the inclusion of physically interactive peripherals is partially due to a demand for novelty and innovation, but also in part a PR move. VG naysayers have, apart from violence arguments, always said that a contributor to the typical obese American's sedentary lifestyle is sitting staring at the boob tube, perhaps playing video games. Their release of these components in part is an argument in the "for" column.

After owning a Wii I cant really see the future of video games ever going back to a standard controller. The Wii remote is great. My brother brought his Wii to Thanksgiving and everyone loved it, even my uncles who bowled and golfed until midnight.
