Isn't there a way to tell by looking in the game slot, there should be some jungle green showing? Like they used some of the parts from those systems on the gold ones, I think I remember that being a way to tell.

Also if it's really hard to tell if it's real or not, it's probably real. Usually fake paint jobs are very poorly done.
