Possibly the only score I will be able to throw in today. More scores to come. Hoping I am 100% by Sunday or Monday. Doug talked me into putting a score up haha. I know I can do better.

FIXED!

Haha. I hope. It sucks being sick. I am playing again right now but not having the best run.

Keep playing. I've found that often times when I have several bad games,I'll eventually pop off a really good one. The last score I posted....I think the previous 3-4 games before it were in the 110k range, but I just kept with it and scratched out a good score. I'm getting a lot better at the combos as well. Now I've gotta try to catch ag and doug....geez.

Just curious am I the only one that doesnt use the pow block? Its not that Im trying to make the game harder on myself or anything, I just dont like it, I think it confuses things more than helps (especially when there are crabs).

I was staying away from it,but I found that it can make chaining big combos together a lot easier so I've been using it. Hey,it's there for a reason...might as well use it. And sometimes having that extra space where the pow block was makes a difference.

So far, this morning was as good as I've had and I just wanted to post a score.  I've got more in me, I'm sure.

I feel like I'm betraying my childhood, but I do prefer this version over the 7800 version, even if I'm using a ROM. I just like using the NES pad on this instead of the 7800 joystick more so.

Also, my preference is to not use the POW block either. I use it as an extra platform often, especially in later levels, though I do know the combo possibilities.

I'm also not using the POW block much, but I might experiment with it and see if it helps my combo skills.

It definitely helps. I use it for the bigger combos .Going to start playing this in a minute.

I love this game (played the GBA version in my childhood), but I'm still exhausted from the tournament... I might give it a shot sooner or later

I think it's more useful as an extra platform beyond the early levels. When the crabs come in, you run the risk of hitting it at the wrong time and getting them running at different speeds. It's not really useful against the flies so I prefer just to save it and use it as a safe spot.

Yes I think the pow block is a great platform. It's been really helpful in getting my scores so high.

I needed some inspiration to help me get a better score. I think I found it.

I've got work to do tonight. Kind of curious as to what phases everyone gets to with these scores. That's why I pause the game after I die but before the game over appears.

Played on my last life since 300K with the chatroom streaming as witnesses. Talk about intense. I'm sure others can beat this but since I work the next couple days I wont have time to play again.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

I was on phase 82 as well if that helps people know distance, also only missed one of the bonuses, nailed every other one.

UPDATE:
510,820

Seeing Space Jockey's score just took the wind out of my sails.

Anyway, I had 3 runs today that got me into the 200k+ territory and then I pulled this one off. I died in Phase 56, missing only one bonus too, that being the last one I did. Always liked this game and it's turned into a fun week, even if my score would've been lower.

Also, is it just me, or does it seem like the levels keep repeating themselves after a certain point, with no real changes?

I didn't count the exact number, but I think they do basically repeat themselves every 11-12 phases.

I want to say I was on Phase 52 but I can't guarantee it.

Well, I tried.  After about 2 minutes I figured out that it's way to akward without a proper controller.  I'll have to pick one up for future contests.  This is all I got for this one, lol.

Most likely will finish in last place, but should get me a participat award.

I'm not positive either, but I think I was on Phase 76.

Some of the previous scores on here are just phenomenal! Hopefully I can present some better competition in the coming weeks.

It seems if you play for the combos and hit all the bonuses it all averages out to roughly 8k-10k a level. I had a great run derailed yesterday where I was at 289k at phase 28. Damn green fireballs.

The green fireballs are to Mario Bros. what the pterodactyls were to Joust.  They cause a lot of cheap deaths, though I still feel the pterodactyls were worse, but it's getting closer.
