Started on the basic level and made it to the third (maybe fourth?) phase of round six this time. I hope this holds until Sunday, as I don't want to have to top that one again this week.

I had to lighten the image to make my shoddy nameplate visible and re-size it for use on the forum. No other modifications.

FYI, that's a Commodore monitor with a stack of FC games in front of it. The NES deck is underneath and the FC is to its right. There is a NES game rack on the top of the 1702 monitor and another CBM monitor, model CN-141, on top of that. All packed neatly on a cafeteria-cart.

yes. the 5000 pts bonus is approximately what you earn for the beginner level. so either way, you finish the 2nd map with around 10000 pts.

Yes. The beginner stage is more or less just a practice stage. Even the manual says once you get the hang of things to just skip it.

the rules only state difficulty: easy, which is under the options menu at the beginning of the game. i haven't been brave enough to turn it up to very hard and see what happens.

Well, starting at advanced level seems just stupid, it gives 5000 points, and the participation score is 4000. But as a lot of people already does this and the rules were not clear, I assume we can play at advanced level ?

Yes, but stop wasting time on this game and go practice on your contrabass !

I would had practiced yesterday if you did not forced me to go to the bar .

By the way, it's "double bass".

Contrabass sounds so much cooler, though

In fact, double bass, string bass, upright bass and contrabass can all be used in English to refer to this instrument.
Contrabass sounds the best to me, like the French term "Contrebasse".

Edit: Contra-Bass, yeah that is bad ass!

Contrabass is mostly used for the register of the double bass, but a flute with the same register would be a "contrabass flute", and so on.

Honestly I'm pretty disappointed some people are going the advanced route. It wasn't in the first post, but you could tell from the dialogue that we were starting at the beginning.

This is an NES game. Many NES games have the AI that scales to your gameplay. If you obliterate the beginner level, the second level is slightly harder. If you skip the beginner level, the second level is pretty much a cakewalk because the CPU cannot respond to your gameplay.

It's like Tecmo Super Bowl. You play week 1 on easy and win 100-0 against the 49ers. By the time you are at week 17 you are lucky to win by a field goal against the Bucs.

Too late now though I guess.

Yeah Jone, let's just put this aside and go on.
It was in the rules in the beginning of the week, and I can tell it for sure since I made the rules.

At the least, starting with the advanced route does not give a score advantage, so it is not that bad in the end.

Enough of this silly game. Nothing makes me more angry then when difficulty is dependent on randomness.

Rampart!

That's about it from me, I wish I'd had more time to go at it.  Oh well, now to wait for guillavoie to beat my score at the last minute like he does every other week.

I guess I just don't get this game. Having to play tetris in the middle really throws me off. I never seem to get any pieces that I need

I couldn't get the hang of it, I hit at it all week and couldn't past the second stage. Ugh.

edit - I don't know what that crap is above the quote...

Heh, I just started on advanced and quite easily beat my old score. Don't really have time right now to have a few tries at it, though.
