Nice change. Probably for the best.

Was just about to mention a possible solution to the 1 life only thing, but it was complicated. You could show progress on a one life game by taking photos of the scoreboard/lives remaining after beating each level. Maybe show the highest score from one of those photos to help prove your final score?

Anyway, moot point. . Good luck everyone!

My check is in the mail, right? Since that's taken care of now, I can get back to practicing!

I had inserted many sarcastic comments here about my score, but decided to remove them.

Those are some serious changes to the rules!  The scores will definitely be much higher with this change.  Happy shooting, everyone!

Stinger!?! FML son! I love this game!... The last 3 finals have been right in my wheelhouse. Adventure Island, DD2 and now this. I had this game when it first came out and I was such a pussy I would get so scared when the siren and boss music would start. I still can't eat watermelon. Awesome pick Bimmy and Guil!

my weakest genre. Figures.

No time to pout! I'll do my best. Never played it.

I was afraid that it was going to be a puzzle game. I'm definitely ready for a shooter after the pacifist rules last week.

I didn't crack the top ten in any shooters during the competition : /

I think I did better in xeviois than you but the other two shooters you all out did me by nearly 500k. Shooters seem to have a freestyle like gameplay. I need to study a pattern and memorize, that's how I get by.

will somebody call the waambulance for me?

I'll give it my best shot maybe I can pull of the upset.

Hopefully I'll do as well as I did with Xevious. That was an intense week of competition! I must find a Stinger cart though. Hmm

100 mile round trip but I got it. Hopefully Chris Heard was a beast at this game and left some of his stank on it. I'm gonna need all the help I can get.

Edit: shout out to Dustys oldies and goodies. Awesome shop out in Youngstown FL.

/me waves hello

You obviously came before my time on the forums, but I certainly am enjoying the contests. I'm happily surprised that I made it this far in the summer tournament.  I should have been doing this years ago!

^ ya. Took around an hour and a half but it's better than waiting for one in the mail. Took $10 for gas so it's a $17 copy of stinger.

It does seem to have that gradius effect. I lost all my lives within 30 seconds of the first death. I wasn't able to grab the angel and it was pretty hairy at that point.

I personally enjoy playing this game more than Gradius. At least having the opportunity to grab the angel makes this game a bit more forgiving than the die once, lose everything and you're out of luck formula.

I haven't played this week's game but since I played (and actually did decent) on Gradius I can confirm that your extra lives don't matter on Gradius. Once you die the first time you are screwed.

I agree! I'm not sure why this game isn't more popular or well known than it is. If I played Gradius for hours at a time, I'd be bored out of my mind.

I don't remember how many times I rented that game as a kid before I finally beat it, but I think that's mostly why I can't stand it today. I doubt I'd even own it had I not found a copy on the $1 shelf at the game store that used to be down the street.
