Just noticed this thread. I like the Google Map and lists but noticed that there's nothing listed in most of Appalachia (namely West Virginia, Pennsylvania, southeastern Ohio, and Kentucky).

Anyone know of any stores in this region? I'm in central WV and don't know of any retro game stores large or small.

I live in Eastern Ohio, [Pretty much on the WV/PA/OH boarder, 5 minute walk to PA or WV from my house] and there's "Just Play" downtown here, but it's all good to bad condition, ebay prices on the nose, and the guy craig is nice but it's not worth stopping. It's super small and I wouldn't be surprised if it closed the downtown place and then just kept the flea market one he had.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I have grand plans for my own business once all our kids are old enough to be in school. I may take you up on the offer and pick your brain a bit sometime soon. Is it okay to call the shop? Or would you rather have an email?

Also there's the Gaming Source.

In San Diego, CA (specifically) both El Cajon and Pacific Beach areas there's Luna Games.  Anyone here who watches PAT's videos on YouTube where there's a game shop(that's the PB Luna Games on there.) They have pretty decent trade in value and a lot of their games are priced to meet or beat buying online by a little, though some stuff is a bit higher just because it has more demand (MM7 was like 60 and SOTN is 30 for example) but nothing is grossly out of control.

Beyond that I can think of 2 more in the area, but considering both of them feel charging 3-10x market value is honest business practices I won't give the name as I don't want people getting ripped off. I will chime in if the owner decides to try and get his store listed here though.

I lived in Portsmouth OH for four years and Huntington for two. It always seemed to me that video games didn't catch on in Appalachia for the most part until 2000, so both the demand for and supply of retro games is lower than in the Midwest, West Coast and Florida. NYC and the South don't seem to be into retro that much as well. With that said, Portsmouth in the early 2000s was a fantastic place to score games. People there don't have much money, so much of the commerce in the area was buy, sell and trade of everything including games. But, it seemed like much of the stock came from either Northern Ohio or local video rental places along the Ohio River. One store was almost all SNES games. But, most of the places shut down years ago. I tried to find places to get games in West Virginia, but had a really hard time. I think I scored a few at the Milton Flea Market. There is retro store in Pikeville, KY. called Page 3's Game Zone.

There isn't much in Vancouver that's reasonably priced. Here we have to yard sale/thrift for our stuff.

Also, I'm going to NYC in a week or two, does anyone have any good places to go? Flea markets, stores, anything works.

How close to OSUs campus is this?  I am coming down Labor Day weekend to move my girlfriend into her new place and would be interested in stopping in.  Plus I'll be down a ton during football season and the school year to hang out.  The Play and Trade that was on campus that I wanted to go to was closed when I was there last week. Untitled

edit: Googled it.  Damn this is real close to campus.  Glad I didnt know about this place a couple years ago when I was still in school.

It's been awhile since I've been to State Line, but I just recently finished an outing that included a rather "unique" game store in Athol, MA, called Never Grow Up.  Also, be sure to check out the Bottomless Pit of Treasure in Danielson, CT.  It's a little bit weird, being the only store in a mill, but it's got lots of cool stuff!

Just found this place last night when I drove WAAAAAAY out of my way to check out this sale I found on craigslist. The sale was a bust, but the store I found was really awesome. Tons of retro games for really reasonable prices. They even had one of those sticker machines, where you put quarters in and get a crappy sticker... but theirs had Mega Man X stickers! They also had a Mario Kart GP2 machine as well as a MvC2 machine setup. I wish it wasn't so far from me, because I'd probably frequent it quite a bit, but it's over an hour drive and it's hard to justify the gas spent.

Alright lets get some NJ love up in this thread!

WE GOT FREAKIN VIDEO GAMES
1700 Nottingham Way #12, Hamilton, NJ 08619
www.freakinvideogames.com...
(This place is incredible, haven't been there since I started collecting but i remember eyeing NIB Nes Titles & Colecovisions. People plug & play their own games & consoles, tournaments constantly. AMAZING ENVIRONMENT)

Trade-A-Tape Trading Post
798 Chambers St, Trenton, NJ 08611
(609) 396-4800
Decent selection, tons of systems, somewhat inflated prices. Just outside Trenton...barely acceptable neighborhood. Games in varying degrees of condition (Very good Quality to GO FUCK YOURSELF! Quality)

Game Trader (Quakerbridge Mall)
Quaker Bridge Mall, Lawerenceville, NJ 08648
(609) 799-7600
(My current stomping grounds only bc its next door to my job. Average selection, unaware employees "Isnt Zelda rare cause its Gold?" but the pricing is OK and they give good trade in credit for recent titles which makes scooping up carts less painful on my wallet.)

Around here, not much, but here are the stores (non-GameStop) that consistently deal in games:

Play 'n Trade
5084 S. Terrace Suite 18
Chattanooga, TN 37412

McKay's Used Books
7734 Lee Hwy.
Chattanooga, TN 37421

D-Tel Games & More
5716 Ringgold Rd.
Chattanooga, TN 37412

Packard's Games & Movies
(unknown address: they recently moved from their location of a few months ago, but they're just down the road from D-Tel)
Chattanooga, TN 37412?

Of these, McKay's is most recommended. If you go there, be absolutely sure to thoroughly check their "very scratched" section...I've scored multiple great games from it, especially PS1 stuff (including Intelligent Qube, Xenogears, Final Fantasy 8, and Mega Man Legends 2). Also, I've bought close to 100-150 strategy guides from them over the years. Unfortunately, their newer-generation game prices typically leave much to be desired, especially on older games of a particular generation.
