To All,

We have recently removed the Hall of Shame thread, it was quickly becoming too broad, too hard to maintain, and too prone to errors/omissions.

We realize that the HoS was a good source of information, and some of you will not like the change, but it began to turn in to a replacement for the already in place NA Feedback system.

Going forward we encourage NA members to deferring to eBay's feedback and NA feedback when dealing with one another. This is going to be the new norm from now on.

We (Dain) is currently working to improve NA's feedback system and you should expect to see those changes in the near future. Other improvements are also on the road map to help identify problematic buyers/sellers.

So the Hall of Shame Master just gets laid off? I hope he gets some type of severance package.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Don't worry, we'll keep him. He's simply going to do less... *ahem*... noble tasks for the Mod Squad. Can't tell you more than that though, there might be people under 18

Makes sense, other sites for buying and selling dont have halls of shame.
But I will say that the HOS did provide a great service to those who would look up a fake game search on google. NAs HOS would usually turn up as a result, and provide a list of known scammers.

I think that ebay seller name list was pretty handy. My rule is i wont buy from someone with zero, ill sell though.

Im just curious though theres some people banned who i read were notorious for selling or buying and not coming through, it really doesnt take much to get a new "burner" so to say. Get all new credentials, and do it right-in-a-row. But i am guess HoS couldnt help with that, anyway? Though it has members name, linked together.

We would still find duplicate names the same way we do now.

I want to chime in here to add that the HoS seems to be our #1 "mod burnout" area, so removing it might help to keep mods around a bit longer

It definitely made NA feel like a safer place to deal and make trades. I'm sad to see it go but understand if it's a run-the-business kind of thing.

I'd like to add that you guys can definitely still come to us for support on NA transactions. Previously people would post in HOS and then we contacted them from there. Going forward, just send a PM to any mod. We'll work together to set things straight.

As said in OP, check feedbacks before engaging in a transaction with someone. If they've had issues in the past, it will probably show up in their feedback.

Wait. So will members still be identifiable/banned for shady dealings?

Identifiable through feedback, banned if the offense warrants it.

Further to Matt's comment, we are improving the "identifiable" aspect too.

Not sure how I feel about this really.

I was on the Hall of Shame, and while it sucked that I drag that around with me forever, it also acted as a reminder of what NOT to be as a collector who's active in a community.

Got any of these for sale? Sell them to me. I also buy other NES Publisher inserts, and even GB/GBC, and SNES inserts too.

We're taking him out on a boat ride later on a deserted lake.

I understand the change. I wish we could still keep a list of ebay names just for the sake of adding to the blocked bidders list.

I realize no mod will admit this and all will vehemently deny it, but I gotta ask:

Which HoS member threatened to sue/sued?

Then why ask? Knock that shit off.

But I'm glad you folks decided to do this if that's what it takes to make life easier and hopefully more enjoyable for the mods. If people practice common sense we should be pretty good.

No one to my knowledge.

Make no mistake, maintaining that list was a shitload of work, we had a discussion about it, and the truth is, NA already HAS a feedback system, and while this was useful at the time, it just became too much to manage. Dain wasn't kidding, this one thread was our #1 mod burnout area. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes and if we already have automated tools in place, why do it manually?

Plus we don't wanna be the eBay police. They can manage their own stuff.

Same here.

The HoS was a way to keep a running record of those terrible transactions. I am always appreciative of the work Mods do and I can understand how time consuming this process was, but I feel this is going to be a big loss for the forums. Having the rules etc on what would get you nominated at least provided an understanding of what would not be tolerated and expose those who have broken such rules. The HoS logo served as a warning to any potential users that wish to start a transaction. It also had a dedicated thread with description of why they were labeled as HoS. It also provided a thread where members can post and explain the situation. An automated feedback system as the one that has been in place only allows for someone to leave feedback and not allow a user to explain, or allow others to chime in with their similar experiences. Moderators would follow up with the situations and a decision would be made and that part of the process displays a members character...

On the other side of it, I understand that since this is a #1 burnout area for mods then something had to be done.

Could it be possible something else could be put in place or have a dedicated HoS team aside from admins/mods or even just limit a HoS thread to NA related transactions? I really believe the hard work by the mods was very helpful to the community.

Only because I'm sure it will happen sooner than later, will there be any rule on people starting threads to call out other members or bad transactions? I can imagine people getting bitter and then that sort of thing ensuing.
