Either way, good luck, this seems like an interesting game.
It is a format that has been used many times here on NA, for both small and large releases. Different folks use it for different reasons, but the basic problem they are trying to figure out is how to have a fair, multi-copy auction. Once all of the spots are filled, then people cannot simply throw out random numbers, but have to analyze the list and plan accordingly. In the beginning it always looks like (fun!) chaos however. Here are some examples from the past:
Large:
HBWC NA Edition:

Armed for Battle:

Small (all without set ending times):

Swords and Runes:

There have been many more that have used the format, but those ones I had ready links to. Armed for Battle is probably the closest in terms of both size and the presence of a fixed ending time.
