Can NA Beat Every SNES Game in a Year - 2014 Better late than never. Progress: 201/720; 27.9%

Back for it's third year, albeit a bit late.  You guys get the idea by now, so I'll just post the rules:

1) Photos are not required.  You may post ending pics as proof if you'd like, but sometimes one can't get their camera in time, or their camera sucks, or they simply don't have one.  No worries here, we're working on the honor system.  At the end of the day, there's no real prizes or anything, so you're only really cheating yourself if you lie.

2) Emulation is okay, with limitations.  Save states are banned for most purposes.  If you use one in a way that would be legal on a console (such as keeping the game on pause so you can sleep and pick it up again in the morning), that would be acceptable, but using it to return to a previous point is not (with the obvious exception of a "save anywhere, any time" feature, which most games do not have built in).

3) First person to post a game as beaten gets it.  You can work on the game all you like, and post your progress (in fact, this is encouraged too...it keeps the thread active, which makes for more posts), but if someone else finishes it first, it's theirs.

4) If a post is made, and the thread gets updated, but I miss your post, well, I'm only human.  Just post a reminder and I'll adjust the rankings accordingly.

5) You may use in-game option screens to your advantage, either adjusting lives, continues, difficulty, etc, so long as the game lets you do this by default.  Cheat codes are disallowed unless they happen to be detailed in the manual or other official literature that came with the game.  Not sure if that applies to the SNES at all.  If difficulty affects the ending, you may do it on the lowest difficulty that shows the entire game or the best ending (for example, I believe Street Fighter II only showed endings at difficulty 4 or higher, thus difficulty 4 would be the minimum to count).

6) In the interest of completing as many games as possible, win conditions for some games may require a consensus from the community.  Since there's no handy AdamL SNES list to refer to like the NES thread has, we'll work it out on a case-by-case basis.  Most games will have some kind of ending, but some simply run forever in an infinite loop.  In the latter case, beating the default high score and surpassing the loop point will suffice.  Some games, such as Miracle Piano, may not actually have a completion point.  These games will be moved to the "completed" list and listed as "unbeatable."

7) I am going to impliment a point system for the games.  However, since I am too lazy to go through and figure out the order of completion at this time from the two previous years, and that neither year got past 40% of the library, we will simply have a 1-2-3 point system.  1 point for a game that was completed in both previous years.  2 points for a game that was beaten in one year but not the other.  3 points for a game that was unbeaten in both previous years.  This will hopefully encourage a few more games to be beaten this year that haven't been done previously.  I will also keep track of the completion order so a 10 point system can be worked out for next year.

8) Adding this in because I forgot to mention it.  All progress in the game has to be made in 2014.  No saves or passwords from before January 1 may be used.  Again, this is on the honor system, but you're only cheating yourself if you don't do it right.

9) I reserve the right to modify these rules and/or add others.  Basically just putting this here as a notice in case something comes up later or I forgot something that should be listed.

Anyway, let's get on with it...

How to complete games that may be brought up later:

Mario Paint - There are 48 levels in the Fly Swatter game.

; Finish 48 levels and the game is beat.

I'm not sure how this works exactly (I'm kind of a moron.) Do we just call out what we beat? I just finished Mega Man X the other day. I took a picture of the credit scroll...

That's how it works.  All the work in the game has to be done in 2014 (no save files on RPGs from last year, that sort of thing).  If you have pics, you just put it in the post.  If not, no worries.

Sounds good!  I'll edit the completions once I get the list finished.  Still working on it now, obviously have a way to go yet, but it's easier for me that way than to edit them in as I type it out (I'm more likely to miss something if I do it at the same time).  Once I get the list drawn up though, we're golden

Yeah, I was thinking of doing another one for a while, and I like how Scary has the NES one working, so I'll try and keep more stats and such to keep it interesting.  Glad you didn't though, you need to focus on the one you're already running...multiple threads is a ton of work...hell, one thread is

Ya that's why I held off on doing this one. I was going to do it as a last resort. You are very much correct that it requires quite a bit of work just focussing on one of these threads. Well hopefully we can get more SNES and GameBoy games beaten this year than last.

I'm not too clear on that version to be honest.  If the port is functionally the same game, I'll count it, but if there's anything added, removed, or modified, I'd have to say no.  Unfortunately I have no experience with the port, and limited experience with the original, so I'm not really in a position to make that call.  Anyone else have any feedback to help with this?

Just to be clear, Super Metroid is MINE!
I found it at the beginning of the year and I'm doing a playthrough of it at the moment. It should be finished by the end of the week or sometime during next week.

I have actually never played the original but I believe the only difference is that the GBA one has a second independent mini game of four swords.

Is it completely separate, or is there any kind of implimentation of the mini game into the main game?  Like, a reward system or something?

I just googled it and it looks like some slightly different translations with the text, a couple different sound effects and of course a different aspect ratio. Other than that it says the core game is the same.

No, 100% seperate.  In fact you can't even play the four swords unless you have the gba linked with at least one other system.

Actually, I think you unlock stuff in four swords the further you get in the main game but not the other way around.  I don't know for sure though since I haven't played four swords.

I just spent the last two days doing a 102% run of Donkey kong Country 2. Will be starting the third tonight.

I also beat Beethoven 2 yesterday and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers this afternoon.

Well, if there's no objections, I'll count your Link To The Past completion. I generally prefer original software, but ports can be okay in some situations. I wouldn't count the GBA Final Fantasy ports for example, because of some functional changes (basically adding the spells and such that were removed from the US version).
