NICE! Congratulations. I'm a little surprised by the offer amounts. I'm not one to know what something like this is worth. But I expected a little closer to 20k. I suppose there has been quite a few whales being sold in the last year. It's been a dynamic time for heavy weight collectors. Rares doen't wow peope like they used to.

I wasn't going to be the first to say it, but exactly this.  For a game that is currently more rare than SE sealed, and with Samson / BB2 being $5k titles, $10-$12k for this seems like an absolute steal.

I want to address this concept of "its rarer than SE sealed so it must be worth quadjillions".

Since when did sealed rarity become the barometer of desirability for a sealed title?    Its an important one yes but its hardly the only one.     You know what I've seen fewer copies of sealed than F2?   Tagin' Dragon.    I have one, its beat to fuck, its the only one I ever saw.    Does that mean its worth 100K???  Its times like this that we need an "eyeroll" emoticon.

Lets get real.   f2 is worth 1k complete on a good day, 10-15k or whatever this did end up selling for is more than fair esp. given some damage to this copy.

Lets not forget that Jason's SE cart and manual just sold for 4k.   You could buy 4 or 5 complete f2's for that.   Its just a more expensive title overall and the only reason its even a contest is because phishor is a moron and because there hasn't been an f2 found in a long long time.

Do you guys honestly think we are even in a position to know which one is rarer as of right now?   There is no chance we even know.    All we know for sure right now is that its 3 copies (plus rumors?) vs 2 copies (plus rumors?).   I'm sorry but that's not a significant enough difference in sealed rarity to overcome the fact that the CIB prices on them are MILES apart.

And if you don't buy that argument, then I've got a Tagin Dragon you can buy.

Whoa take a deep breath there  You sound way too pissed off simply because you own an SE and another collector has a different opinion on SE's status as a grail.

Rarity is always a driving factor behind price.  And unlicensed games sell like ass, but I get the argument you're trying to make.  You just picked a horrible example.

And not so sure on F2 complete at $1k.  I was thinking more like $1.3-1.5k.  Pretty sure guillavoie scooped up that Minty one last year so I wonder what he has to say about it.

Also, yeah Jason got $4k for SE, and PMA couldn't get $6k for a cart or box combo, when the box used to be $10k alone.  So I'm not so sure which direction that title is moving.

As far as rarity, we'll never be a position to know which one is rarer, even when we die.  We can only collect based on "perceived rarity" and hoarders make it a guessing game.  It's part of the fun in the hobby though, who knows whats out there.  But what we do know is that there have been much more sealed / CIB SEs than sealed / CIB F2s in the past couple of years.

So as of today, F2 is hotter than SE.  Where it goes in the future remains to be seen, but today's sale price won't be influenced by any of that.  Which is why that I said "seems like a steal", because it "seems" rarer by today's standards.  2 < 3.  You want to downplay that as "Only one copy rarer", but adding one sealed SE to the market dropped a $40k game to $20k (ish).  That one extra copy has much more weight to it than you may think.

Jone,

I don't mean to sound pissed off, but its got nothing to do with what I do or don't own. You'd be surprised at the f2 in my collection is all I am going to say.

Its got to do with the fact that the logic of it is badly flawed and I find that annoying. I've only seen two chubby cherubs and two ninja kids. Does that put them on an equal footing with f2 as well?

Of course not. Not even when chubby cherub was so hot it was giving grown men "chubbies."

What I am saying is a little perspective would be nice. THe f2 got a great price and it deserved it. But to say it "went cheap", I just have to shake my head.

But you got Samson and BB2 who are like $300 CIBs selling for $5k.  That's 16x markup.

So even if we assumed $1k for F2, that's 16k sealed.

Maybe my wording was off.  Didn't mean to imply it went cheap, I just expected it to go more.  Especially with all of the talk between you and RB where you see a sealed game sell and say "Isn't it only worth xxx" when it sold at twice that amount.

oh come on jone.   you are way better than that; how is it we are right back where we started at sealed rarity being the only factor?

what about the massive condition difference on those two SEs?   It is real and impacts value significantly, and I can vouch for that from personal experience.    When the nice one came along I was toying with buying it and selling my undercopy.    WHen the beat one came up I didn't even take a second look.

re multiples  -  well, we all know there is no hard and fast rule as to what multiple of cib a sealed is worth.... just saying that the spread in this case seemed fair to me.   10k is a lot of $$ and 15k is really a lot.

Fair enough re everything else, I understand.

True, I didn't intentionally neglect that point, I simply forgot.  I assumed beggars can't be choosers on grail items, but I'm sure condition plays a part in every sale price.

I wonder what the spread between a beat up NWC Gold vs. a Pristine Mint NWC Gold would be...

Beggars only spend money on malt liquor. And even then, not thousands of dollars worth at a time.

To turn a phrase.

I am glad to see that this thread is still alive and well.

I like how people are arguing over an undisclosed amount of money. For the first time ever, I'm willing to divulge the dollar value in order to clear up any and all misconceptions. It was sold for a single Gorillion. I know, I know. . . Early estimates were in the two to three Gorillion range, but we settled for less due to the buyers status in the community.

Discuss.

It was just the box/cart, and it wasn't as much as I thought, for $7,600. Funny how I can't even remember the details of such a unique sale.
