OK, I couldn't do it.
Did an almost perfect loop 1 run (died to Astaroth when hand/finger locked and I failed to jump), but the drop manipulation on stage 1 loop 2 works in weird ways I haven't figured out yet. Ended with only 600K points even, so bad it was.
With hand and fingers hurting, it is better to call it quits for now. The meagre 711,300K is my final score for this contest. Sorry for being such a failure.

I need something with a NES controller and a save state so I can discover how the drop manipulation works on loop 2 if I am to hope to make to one million points by the end of the year. Might need to get a powerpack for that.

I could never figure out why sometimes he swoops down and follows you and other times he doesn't.....I jumped at the most possible part of the edge an "most" of the time he does not follow me but the odd time he frigs you over.
 

That one almost never follows me; the one that got me is the one sitting at that bottom. I fucking hate that one, and the one you have to fight in level 6. Fuck those guys.

Time to drown my frustration in the worst rum ever. But I brewed 3 litres of that, and I will drink all of it in the coming weeks.

I had a few minutes today to throw together a score.  Looking through the thread, it looks like a few of you had a real swell time with this one.  I made it into stage 5, and it kinda stings that I could have achieved just a high a score by grinding stage 1 more...

I like what you did with the purple tint there, really gives it some character.

Yeah, it is rather disheartening that stage 1 is the only place to farm for points in this game.
You can farm 20K points at the end of part 1 of the stage 3, but that pales in comparision to what you can get in stage 1.
And the bosses are worth so little in terms of points.
 

Yeah, I think I had close to 100k at the end of stage 1, and thought, what the hell, I'll just see how far I can get.  What kind of points do you get for completing the first loop?
 

Without farming for points, but with getting the 10K king on stage 1 and killing all the 4 mages, you should be seeing between 160K to 180K points for completing the first loop.

Anyway, I want to personally thank all of you for this fun filled week. Discoveries were made, booze was had, laughs were shared, information was traded and playing competitive again made me notice something and I scheduled a visit to my neurologist to discuss it.
