Wow you need some vegas for real.

And no comic collector in the world would ever pay that kind of money for any trashed comic whatsoever.

Nope. You can say this is worth that, that is worth this, blahblahblah what you say is completely irrelevant or for fools only.

I came here because I was interested in finding out about an actual transaction, which is what sets market value. Nothing else means a thing. Once it changes hands, that sets comparative value.

Now who doesn't know what they're talking about? I grew up in the back of a comic shop owned by one of the top collectors in the country. Whom actually handles actual transactions on a daily basis. In the actual real world.

You all make lots of words without saying anything. I'm not gonna take the time here to point out how most of you keep contradicting yourselves and each other.

k bye thanks for reminding me not to get too into this stuff

It must be a vegas thing...everyone has either grown up in (insert store/something famous/popular here) or knows someone that knows someone that knows someone throwing something out...you sound a lot like that guy from pawn shop....your name wouldn't happen to be chumley would it?

Wrong thread to cast your vote in...but obviously we need to talk about it "behind closed doors"?

I tried to get my np cgc'd and they emailed back and said they don't grade gaming magz. Are you sure cgc will grade it? Maybe I should try another rep...

Well that's interesting; I thought they would as they grade playboy and sports illustrated. It's probably just a matter of it not being mainstream enough yet. I suspect if np1 was worth enough to get a decent # of submissions they would do it.

Probably your best bet would be to call or email one of the senior people and state your case. Presented the right way they might go for it. I would imagine they have to feel like it's worth their while to learn about NP.

Yeah I'll get with them tmrw and ask in detail. If they say no I'll see if I could generate enough interest via forum petition if they'd look into it then. I could start in collection forum and go from there. I would think alot of people would be interested in grading their mint copies and why wouldn't cgc want to make more $.

Dear CGC,

I recently sent a request in to see if you guys would grade video game magazines such as Nintendo Power and the answer was no. I want to first make sure this is still the case. If it is, I'd like to offer up an idea. I'm part of a very lage community of retro video game collectors that also collect old retro gaming magazines such as Nintendo Power. If I were to get a petition going on www.nintendoage.com... how many sign offs would you need to look into video game magazine grading? It would benefit your company greatly with an increase in revenue and it would also make many game collectors very happy.

If you aren't familiar with NintendoAge, we're a vast community of serious to casual game collectors that collect everything and anything retro game related. Please let me know if I would need to speak to a manager or any senior personnel on this matter. I'm also happy to chat on the phone anytime.

Sincerely, Brian Koo

Response:

I am sorry but at this time there is still no plan to grade gaming magazines.

The problem is not one of volume, its one of data and of certification. If we do not know the material we cannot certify it without backing data including page counts, publisher information, existence of inserts, posters, etc... and without full details on every single issue of of single magazine in question, we cannot comfortably certify its authenticity. That is the issue and that is what is keep us from grading other magazines. A petition will unfortunately not change that.

We will certainly make a big announcemnt if or when that changes.

Meh, oh well.

This may be the only mint copy in existence. It is for a FACT the only item of it's kind currently on the market in the entire world.
This item sells for $50.00 in deplorable, crumpled, garbage condition.
I have reduced the starting bid to $899.95 which must be by far the bargain of the week on all of ebay. I wil not relist this item again. If it does not sell, it will stay in my bank vault. I will take it out in twenty years and list it on Sotheby's for a five figure sum.

ehh... don't give up.    The way you respond to that is with something along these lines:

Thanks for clarifying for me the nature of the difficulty you have in grading these.   I can certainly understand your wanting to know information about the items being graded so that you can be in a position to reliably certify.

Let me ask you then exactly what information you need?   It would be a simple matter for us at nintendoage to provide you with a database of page counts, posters, and inserts for every issue of Nintendo Power.   You are correct that many issues did come with a poster.     In most cases there were no other significant inserts, only loose (not attached to the magazine) subscription cards and such, which I assume wouldn't be of interest.

I'd like to make this happen and look forward to working with you.
