Repost from FW. Make long story short - prototype of mapper 156 in progress. Kickstart 50 loose carts. Ball park price $60 plus shipping.

Yes, i know, a bit costy, but no $2 donor exist, so custom PCB have to be done.

Buzz and Waldog, Buzz and Spinner and KoKo Adventure share the same mapper, so they could be done as well.

Kit or assembled JEDEC compatible PCB without ROM chips could be an option. At moment prototype contain 7 chips common logic plus WRAM chip and 2 ROM chips, so 10 in total.

I would love to have a few of those boards, then I can put Buzz and Waldog, Buzz and Spinner and KoKo Adventure all on carts as well.

What are the chances of being able to buy just the boards with no ROM chips?

Chances? Same as carts. By the way, you looking for NES or Famicom boards?

I would prefer NES but Famicom is fine I can always use an adapter. What kind of price are we looking at for just the boards?

So what's the advantage of this unhacked ROM over the one offered on The NES Dump? does something in-game change? if not, well, I really don't see the point on spending twice the price for a current repro.

vladictivo, noone forcing you to buy anything, just some people prefer original, non-modified things and you are not from their circles.

Forget about money. I really want to know what's different. The hack alllows one to use a cheaper mapper or what?

CHR part of mapper 156 do 8x1k banks in very fast way. AFAIK it's related to animation of some details. I don't have patched repro to compare. Also mapper 156 used by 3(?) other games with no patches exist.

Just to clarify situation - the goal IS NOT to knock down Motzilla's work, but create a board, which can hold original ROM. Yet, no games have to be destroyed to replicate mapper 156 based games.
