I'm extremely happy about Mega Man being on Thanksgiving week too.  I was worried it would be during the week I'm going to be gone for (it turned out to be Q*bert).  This looks like a great list and a ton of games I havne't played yet, so that's going to be fun too.

As for this week, Bad Dudes is another game I've never played before on any platform and will be going back to a rom this week.  I'll post a score as soon as I get one that won't make me want to hide under a rock.

Ugh, I have this game but.. damn. Am I missing something? The screen seems jittery and the controls are kind of stiff. I got to the second level and gave up. Then again I'm horrible at beat-em-ups and don't particularly enjoy them anyway Point racking on this game (from what I've read) seems to be similar to Castlevania, and I think that was allowed?

It's not you,that's how the game plays. After a while you get used to it.

Whew, that was close! I'd like to give it another shot, but I'm not sure how much higher I can get unless that end game bonus also gives you points for the extra lives you have over. I tanked a few lives on the boss rush at the end just to get through it, so I may have cost myself some bonus points if that is the case.

The weapons make the boss rush so much easier. I prefer the nunchuks over the knife though. The only boss I seem to have any trouble with on the boss run is the stick weilding shaolin monk guy. It's that jumping. On the ground,he gets pounded. Even the last guy is kind of a joke. Just make sure you let the helicopter get in the air before you jump on it or make a little jump,otherwise the blades will kill you.

Something came over me to where I said, "screw it" and decided to try for a higher score and not play Skulls of the Shogun against my buddy on Steam. Then everything just sorta fell into place and I found myself on the helicopter jump spin kicking the decidedly rad looking last boss. Apparently I was bad enough.

This doesn't leave this thread: I actually found myself enjoying playing Bad Dudes on the NES tonight. I can only blame it on trying to reach for a high score for this week's competition. I think if the scrolling wasn't so damn choppy, the game would be a letter grade higher in most retro gamers' scorecards.

I hope this was posted somewhere in this thread.

Um, yeah. I'm just taking the participation point this week.

I'm not a fan of this game, at all. Last week, when I played Guerrilla War for the first time, I didn't do so well but I still wanted to keep playing it and felt I could improve because I felt like it was genuinely fun, even with just that first run. For Bad Dudes, it felt like a chore for me to just play it even after the fourth run (which is where this score is from). I'm just not a fan of the controls (I'm too used to the A button being for jumping I guess) and the bad responsiveness I get from the game too.

If others like this game, that's fine since I always believe every game could be someone's favorite, but it's just not for me is all.

It would be more of an accomplishment to win it outright, but I guess it still counts either way.

EDIT: I'm leaving on my trip soon, so I don't have time to wait.  Here is an extra score from a run that does NOT use the charged punch against the third boss.  Bimmy, please use this lower score if you rule against this technique.

Time to go on vacation, so this will be it for me.

I'll pass along a hint that I learned last fall (where have you gone, Miss Clawful?): For extra points against the third boss (the green, splitting ninja), use charged punches.  They will immediately trigger his split move, rather than requiring the usual three hits.  This will produce more ninjas than you would normally have to fight.  Each of these enemies is worth 1,000 points, so it adds up!

Also, make sure you kill all of the fire ninjas.  Those are also worth 1,000 each, but they won't spawn unless you scroll the screen at the right moments.

P.S. - Loved the "burger" video.  Couldn't stop laughing at all the craziness.
