My order for AVS and NES adapter hasn't shipped yet. It's got to be getting close!

Has anyone else tried a green strip game yet? So far the only game mine didn't play was Guardian Legend(my only green strip game). I tried around 10 times, but I'm still just getting a black screen unfortunately.
My Tetris has the green strip. It will work if you insert the left side first.

I thought the pin connectors were supposed to be fixed on this batch?
I was thinking this was the case as well.

Unfortunately, It doesn't seem to be fixed on mine. I tried inserting left-side first as you guys suggested and that seems to fix the issue.

The only green strip game I have to test with is Guardian Legend, so it's possible that other games wouldn't have the same issue. That said, I haven't had a single issue with any other NES game. Every other one has worked perfectly on the very first try.

Still having some occaisional issues with the famicom games, but it definitely seems to be improving. It seems to just be a couple with slightly thinner PCBs.

That said, I'm still really enjoying the console. The picture/sound are truly excellent! Just an FYI mine was on version 1.00 so you will probably want to update it when you get yours in the mail.

So, who has an AVS from this batch?

How's has the build improved from gen 1? (Hdmi connector, cart slots, etc)

Can anyone confirm if the USB port is through hole or SMT?

The Eagle has landed.

The package was delivered today @ 3:00 PM Central time.

Now I have to figure out how to make more desk space. The gaming systems are out of control.

Kosmic, I haven't even turned this thing on yet, but for the cause I looked.

Best I can tell, it does appear to be through hole and not surface mounted.

I can say that it is on there very solid. I gave a firm squeeze and wiggle and USB port didn't budge.

Here are a couple of pics so you can confirm:

Quick Update:

AVS works great out of the box. Build quality of the board (soldering, etc..) is top notch. Unit is solid. USB is now attached to board with through hole method. It's not going anywhere.

The color of the unit of mine is more tan than gray on top, unlike the picture on the box (no biggie to me).

The NES games are a little hard to insert. You have to hold down the unit steady and align carefully and push. But, the games insert with satisfactory and you can remove fairly easily (easier than a new cartridge pin slot for original NES).

I've only played Battletoads so far but it looks amazing and sounds great. I'm playing on my ASUS ROG monitor with the signal going through a Framemeister via HDMI pass-through.

I have not updated the firmware as of yet, but plan on doing this soon.

I do wish the menu would be updated so you could see the values of your settings such as the Pixel Aspect, etc.. I hope a firmware update will eventually add values for you to see and we can reference those when talking about it. I need to dig through the forum again to see what values I need to set here as I'm not sure.

It would be nice if the menu had some explaination of these settings on-screen as well.

Overall, it's a great solid piece of machinery that I would recommend.

They need to be set to what ever you think looks good. There is no correct answer.

I prefer 3.5 pixels for the HDTV and 4 pixels for the ASUS gaming monitor. Avoid the odd .25 and .75 increments as they create pretty bad artifacts when scrolling. Far left is 3x3 (square aspect) and far right is 3x5 (full wide screen). From the left side (starting at zero) 3.5 pixels is two clicks right and 4 pixels is four clicks right.

Some users also like to use the aspect button on their TV to squish the picture to 4x3 aspect (many newer sets do not allow aspect selection over HDMI) and use the AVS 5x3 pixel setting that stretches the entire width. Then the display does the scaling for you and you still get perfect width pixels, closer to the ideal 1.2 pixel aspect.

Thank you for the tips. I actually have AVS hooked into an Asus ROG monitor. I will try out your setting recommendations, Kosmic. I have been distracted from AVS for a bit as I picked up the SNES CE. Stood in line at Wally World till midnight. Lol.. I wish there was more time in the day. I can't wait to try out the rest of NES game collection on AVS.
