Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week’s game is going to be Bucky O’Hare.  Here are the rules:

  • Play until Life 0.  Once you get to Life 0, you must stop playing and take your picture.  Anyone suspected of playing the game on Life 0 will have their score disqualified.
  • Get as far in the game as possible
  • Play the planets in this order: Green, Red, Blue, Yellow
  • Lowest score takes precedence in the event of a tie (ex. Two players get to Area 3 of the Green Planet.  Whoever has the lowest score at that point in the game takes precedence)
  • Furthest progression wins with lowest score taking priority
  • GENRE: Action/Platformer

The contest ends Sunday, 6/28/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

This game is the worst. Probably because I never played it much.

This game is pretty brutal, but I love action platformers so I'm back!

What if you beat the game. How does the score work then?

The rules look like the same ones from Battletoads week, so if multiple people beat the game, whoever beats it and has the lowest score wins.

Since I can't finish any higher or lower than 3rd on the overall leaderboard, I'll probably just leave my score where it is and take the rest of the week off.

I'm not moving much in the scoreboard either , but I think I'll still give this one a go.  First time playing it, and it's pretty easy...so far.

I got my score on my second try, but with the bye week next week I could use the extra week off. I do have an outside shot at the platformer icon, but arnpoly has enough of a lead that he should be able to lock it up.

Tell you what though, I'll take next week off instead.  How's that sound?

So confused as to why the lowest score would win, rather than the highest in the case of a tie. That being said I think I'll get in on this one... I have a Japanese copy of this game, it still counts right? There are no regional differences aside from the text, I believe.

The reason it's low scoring is because you can point rack this game like crazy.

I didn't think of that, but that makes sense - alright, guess I'll try to kill as few things as possible.

I'd first ask bimmy_lee or guillavoie to make sure the Japanese version is okay to use before putting up a monster score. Would hate for you to put in all that time only to find out your score does not count.

Yeah good advice, guess I'll wait for him to chime in here. Though I've been wanting to replay this game anyway so I might just get started in a few hours if he doesn't respond.

If the Japanese version is exactly the same as the North American version (difficulty, enemy placement, game speed, etc.), then it should be fine. If anything is remotely different, the Japanese version won't be allowed.

SALVAGE SHUTE ACT 1 - 143,700

I love this game, this was my first go at it, I know I can get further, I've beaten it a few times and last time was about  4 months ago. I've been plaing Mega Man 1-6 regularily the past 2 months so I've been practicing along the same style of game for a bit.

I'll try again this week to see if I can beat this run.
