This guy beats the game with 520k by killing all the enemies and getting all the stars. This is essentially a perfect run.

Just to be clear, I wasn’t implying anything. I just know the game like the back of my hand so I can play through it quickly enough where I don’t have to search and run in to multiple spawns, that’s all. 

 

Totally, not really speaking to any particular comment or anything, just wanted to make it clear that there should be some room for sure for others to beat my score! Don't want people giving up just yet!  

Please tell me you were able to score one of those sweet bootleg T's. 

 

Stupid inconsistencies, it took us a while before catching that 3rd boss tank respawning (thanks to guts on that one).

Okay, I just got a much better score. I'm getting closer to 500k. I managed to rescue the hostages on stage 5 without fucking up this time. And then the final boss got me once again. If I had managed to rescue the hostages on the last stage I think my score would have been over 480k even without the win.

But anyway, the final boss still sucks. I had him in a good back and forth pattern at first. I thought that I could do it this time. And then I just kept messing up. I hate how many hits he takes.

I'm not the best at shooters so I  play it safe on the third boss by going in close to destroy the cannons and then backing far away to dodge the spread of bullets. This is kind of a slow strat so I have to shoot more than one tank. I try not to shoot any more than I need to survive though. It sucks that the better you are at this boss and the faster you can defeat it, the less points. But this is the way it goes with a lot of NES games.
 

I dont know, NES is tough but I dont think every game needs to be a gauntlet.  The first time I played this was recently with Nesmaster on co-op, we almost beat it and really it was just the last stage combined with fatigue and not paying enough attention that got us.  It's refreshing to be able to enjoy NES without tearing your hair out
 

I prefer playing games without watching gameplay videos, but unfortunately certain bonuses might be left unknown unless you randomly discover the bonus or you spend hours and hours per level.

I never watched any videos, and while I combed every level, I actually didn't even realize stars were a thing for like half the game so I wasn't even shooting the whole time trying to find them. Took about an hour, maybe.

PS my camera only has flash off, and auto flash. I could not figure out how to make it use the flash, so that is me holding my keychain flashlight on my name box lol

the run I just did, I went for every door, star, plane, rocks and pillar etc. and I got almost 490000. The 500k score is doable if you take your time.

I'm just glad to have a run where I finished the game.  I figured out how to no-death the final boss, so that's cool.

There were a lot of nasty suprises in the later levels, like the landmines, enemy tanks hidden in buildings, and those assholes in the cliff wall.

Hahaha, so the lead singer from Jackyl was once a guest on the Tom Green show and when introduced, came out with his chainsaw totally f*ucking up Tom's desk.
Green was legit pissed and couldn't even finish the musical number at the end.
