Oh, and good luck, Bea, with Slalom. Let me know if you come across a definite ending somewhere in there... I beat each slope up through level eight earlier in the year, but I was uncertain enough about the presence or lack of an ending that I called it done for my sake but didn't take the point for it here...

Well, it seems you have beaten Slalom right there. There's no ending for it, and the box says that there's 24 tracks, which is 3 slopes times 8. Then it repeats for each slope.

That sounds good enough for me.  I'll award him the point

And with that I move my focus to Track & Field II.
It seems I won't be able to hit 50 points this year.

Well, there's always next year...assuming you can expand your library of games, since a good chunk would get you no points anyway after this year

Aye. It seems I should invest on a Powerpack next year.
There's at least 30 games from the list that were beaten by other people this year, so I have some room to work anyway.
I'm so going to one live GnG for next year contest!

I am betting next year is the year we knock them all out. Our first attempt is certainly nothing to shake a stick at, however.

I'm actually quite impressed by the progress, and while it's regrettable that the goal doesn't look achievable (it's not over yet mind you, still possible if enough people chip in), it shows that many games are definitely doable, and if we start early we can probably get it done

Oi, how silly of me. I forgot that I have a Dynacom 64 in 1 pirated cart that has some unbeaten games on it.
I need to check it for the list of games and some pictures when I get home.

Track & Field II is down. My poor fingers suffered quite a bit in some of the events. -_-
Also, the 64 games cart add the following games to the list I can beat:
Bump 'n' Jump
Lode Runner
Mach Rider
Star Force
Xevious: The Avenger
Arkanoid
Mad Max
Devil World

I'll try to beat at least 4 of them this week.

Images of the 64 game menu:

Many of those seem to be famicom games that were given funny names.

I'd be super impressed if you beat Arkanoid, Bea. I certainly don't doubt you in the least, it's just really difficult.

Without the pad controller, I have no hope of beating it.
Maybe I can beat it by December next year if I start practicing since January.

From what I've heard, Arkanoid is next to impossible without the vaus controller (if not 100% impossible).

Also, looks like that's a pretty damn sweet pirate cart...of course, I like any pirate cart with Circus Charlie, that game just fucking ROCKS.

Yes, it is. But you forgot to count Track & Field II for me.
I'll try to clear Mach Rider when I get home from my parents tonight.
It's done. Mach Rider is beaten. I have beaten 10 stages in the three modes of the game. Things seemed to start repeating after the 10th stage in every mode.

Aha... thanks for the scoop, Bea. I don't have to worry about revisiting Slalom someday, then.

As for Back to the Future II and III, I just finished III the other night... I was surprised to see it had an actual ending. And thank *goodness* the drive to 88 MPH was a cutscene and not a one-shot final stage like in the first game...

I feel like BTTF 2&3 should only count as one point for me, though; I see the two "parts" as two "levels," based on the inclusion of a password. But whatever you see fit to do is fine.

That's probably it for me this year... I may save my foray into Dragon Warrior IV until the start of the new year, if we're doing this again for 2011. I still have about 300 NES games in my library I haven't beaten...

We're doing it for sure. I may not be around to start it right on the ball, but I do accept PMs for this. Gonna be out of town for a funeral this week, not sure if I'll make it back in time to start it, and I don't know if I'll have much 'net time out there. I will start the thread for sure though, so no worries there, I just have no idea if it will be started on time or if it'll be late. Assuming I end up having to start it late, I will accept PMs on a first-come-first-listed basis. If two people knock off, say, Punch Out, the first to PM me gets the point. Should be obvious but I want to make sure that nobody gets screwed over

Anyway, I felt BTTF2&3 should be separated. If anyone else thinks it should be only tracked as one game, please speak up. I'll consider the arguments and adjust the total accordingly. Perhaps I could do it like I do with games like Zelda, where 2 people can claim points (one for each quest), but if one person beats both it's only worth one point (just doesn't give a chance for a second point to be scored by someone else). Honestly, never thought anyone would beat that one, I tried and gave up...and I actually like the game

Anyway, I just knocked off City Connection myself just now. Not sure if I'll put much time into another game to knock it off this list or not, but I very well might

EDIT: Regarding BTTF2&3 again, I think that's exactly what I"ll do...score it like multiple quests.  Because you did both, you get the sole point, but if you did one and someone else did the other, then both players would get one.  If anyone objects, let me know your reasons and we'll figure it out.  Damn special-case type games

Hey, I just fired up Joust, and I'm not really sure what to call beating it. The waves don't really change (stage 3 has the bridges burned, allowing the Lava Troll to grab you...not a real significant change), and I know it goes forever. Normally I'd just say getting the top score would claim it, but it doesn't actually track high scores (fucked if I know why). If it's just a matter of playing it once to get a score, it's not really "beatable" unless we put parameters on it (AdamL has nothing). I'm pretty sure an extra life is awarded at 20K (didn't get there myself, got 16K on the one attempt I made), so we can call it getting the first extra man. If it's just "get a score" then I did it, but I feel if that's the case it's better to just not track it at all. Any ideas?

Also, I'm still curious about tracking Hillsfar. As I said, I got 2 of the 4 endings back in September, and each one is a fair bit of work to do. It would make sense to track the characters as individual quests, or to track the game as 4 individual games (since the quest lines are completely different depending on your character's class). I never heard any feedback back in September, so I'm curious what you all think before I scratch anything off. Options would be 1 point per person (4 quests total for possible 4 points), or tracking it as 4 different games (one for each quest - this is how I'm tracking it on my personal log), or 1 point when all 4 quests are done. Just curious how you all want to run it. For the purposes of this list I'm thinking 4 quests with only 1 required completion, but as I stated, my personal tracking has it as 4 separate games.

Xevious is down. Urgh... this one was painful.
About Joust, I'd go with the "get a score" idea. It seems like one of those games that are there just to frustrate us, like Xevious.
About Hillsfar, I like the idea of making each ending count as a separate game. Since there's so much work to get each ending, it's only fair that they count points of their own.

I'm thinking with Joust I'd call getting the 20K to get the first free man for my own personal list, so that's the option I would lean to. Gives it something that isn't "play me once" to count it. I'll go with that plan on Hillsfar though, since it does seem to be the most accurate representation of what the game is about. I just didn't want to impliment that plan without someone else's opinion...didn't want to be giving myself two points unless others felt it was a fair way to do it. Didn't exactly know what the game was like until I started playing it, but yeah, they have different storylines and different ending text with each base class, so it is the best option IMO.

I'll mark you down for Xevious then

Bump 'n Jump is done.
I'm having a hard time enjoying those last games I have beaten. They feel so bland. Even Lode Runner, which I thought I would love due to the fact that I loved playing it on the MSX when I was very little, disappointed me.
