Yeah I know, I'm late getting around to doing this. Well, better late than never right? I'd like to see SML3 get played, so here's the regular edition cartridge ROM with some bugfixes added. I've also included a lable so you can make your own copy.

Please remember to use a headered Super Mario World ROM when patching. You can remove the header after if you want.

EDIT: I've added a headerless version of the patch.

Oh and if you find any bugs and want them fixed, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Could you give the cliff's notes on what you mean by "headered ROM"?

Is there some manual change to the ROM that is required before patching?

In SNES world, a headered ROM has an extra 512 bytes at the beginning of the ROM. These are from old copiers that needed headers in order to work properly. SMC, FIG, UFO and SWC are all common file extensions for headered copier ROMs.

Typically, an SNES ROM without a header has a .SFC extension. Those are considered clean ROMs.

Just make sure that your Super Mario World ROM is 524800 bytes long when patching SML3. I felt going with a headered ROM was better because those are the most common still.

Are they more common?

The ROM I have from a "complete set" download is ".smc" file with 524,288 bytes.

So is the solution to add the 512 bytes in a hex editor?

Usually yes, SNES ROMs have copier headers.

Your ROM doesn't have a header, the file extension should be changed to ".sfc" instead. Yes you could just add 512 bytes to the beginning.

Easy way to tell if your ROM is headered is to take the size in bytes, divide by 1024 and take the remainder.

If the remainder is 0, then you have a headerless ROM.
If the remainder is 512, then you have a headered ROM.

(as stated on the ROM hack city page I linked to)

So... I should probably stick a headerless patch up there too?

If you have one, that would be ideal.

I don't know what the distribution of different ROM sets is, but this set was sent to me (fairly recently) by someone that pulled it down as a complete set, so I'm assuming it reflects the most popular or most readily available batch of ROMs.

Hey now, I love that game. I played the crap out of it as a kid. But ya I agree. Shouldn't have had the Mario title. If this is a stand alone Mario Land 3 I'm excited to try it.

I played the hell out of mine as a kid too

Something very satisfying about lowering your shoulder and blasting an enemy off screen.

I love Wario Land 1 as well, a childhood favorite of mine. From beginning to end, it's a massive nostalgia trip.
