It's just market rate. Cousins will get even more. As a Skins fan I liked the guy but I'd rather have the $30M per year. I don't expect Alex Smith to be our savior but I'd rather have him than Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater or whatever we'd wind up with as a draft pick.

He hasn't even played a full season worth of games yet lol I know he has potential, but damn.

He did, he took an 1-11 team on a 4 game winning streak. Or was it 1-10 to 5-0? He did a lot better than Matt Flynn's massive hype day after 1 game. Sure you want a larger sample size but QB's get paid in this league and good ones are hard to come by. Even just "above average" ones are hard to come by.

No i know that, and i am sure Aaron rogers will end up breaking this record very soon with his next contract. I just am surprised they are willing to drop so much money on him so quickly, i guess he made one hell of an impression. I hope he turns out to be a great consistent QB, i like the Niners. 

 

Speaking of which, don't first round picks get paid an absurd amount of money before stepping onto an NFL field? At least Jimmy G. has played some games at the NFL level to show he can play.

That's just the reality for the modern day NFL.  Pay Jimmy, or court Cousins, or pray a draft pick works out.  And NFL coaches and GMs know they have to win now because of the grossly rabid and unrealistic fanbases that will want their blood.  Like when Harbaugh gets fired next year.


I mean, does anyone want to even take a guess on what Goff and Wentz are gonna be signing here in a couple years?  What about Wilson, or Prescott, or Watson?  This will be nothing.

first round pick money is slotted basically now. The ridiculous contracts are and have been over for awhile now. 1st round money for a good qb is still a steal.

I'm happy to see them give him a contract, he brought some confidence and excitement we hadn't had in a while.

Plus if you don't scoop him up/lock him down, someone else will pick him up and if he succeeds, you eat shit in the press for years.

 

Lets just all be happy that the Niners hosed the Patriots on the trade, and we dont need to suffer through Garappolo being Brady's successor.

Like Jone said, only until somebody else grabs Cousins (which that won't sound right either).
