I feel like we were all having fun and being respectful last night. If anyone has any issues, if they speak up I'm sure the NA community would respect them.

I'd like a chat to game with people once splatoon comes out. I find trying to get stuff going through the forum a pain.

Well, I know some guys were using that Discord chat to talk while playing Switch.  I've never used it before so I'm not sure how it works but I imagine that will be the go to for Splatoon as well.  Will be interested playing Splatoon and actually being able to communicate and strategize.  Sucks your opponents will hear your plans, though.  Can't wait for that official chat.  Unless it's basically just the same thing and everyone hears you constantly.

Well I don't want to see that junk again. It's not funny to harass women - Official, unofficial, whatever the chat is I will do my best to make sure that doesn't happen.

I know nothing about discord. Do you have the ability to boot or ban people there? I know when I clicked the link it said sadikyo sends you an invitation. Just curious how that works.

Anyone ever consider Facebook Messenger? You can add a ton of people to a chat, if someone harasses you or says something you don't like, you have the option to block said individual. Just an idea. i have a Facebook chat going with at least 4 or 5 people from the site and it has definitely been a great way to get to know people better, and trade games with people i trust. The blocking feature can save the mods a lot of headaches. Just a thought.

Is discord down for anyone else?

Why have we invested so much energy into a 'Chat' system to which you have to sign into another service anyway... It makes chatting on this site redundant if we have to go through another service on a seperate tab - I have seen on many forums that they have a chat box where members can comment in a Chatbox at the top of the forums Home Page, That seems much more logical.

I don't think much energy was put in. Discord was a service ready to be used. Once it was tried out and found to be useful, the decision was made to link to it from NA. That solution probably came from it not requiring any coding effort aside from the link. (I wasn't actually involved in this, but I think I have a pretty good guess)

Consider also that Discord is incredibly popular, lots of people already use it. It's basically today's Skype/AIM/MSN Messenger, so plenty of people already have an account, and are already in servers for other purposes.

Rather than having like 10 tabs open on every forum having their own shitty version of a chat on their home page, I'd MUCH rather have one place I go to to chat with my various friends across multiple boards.

A huge benefit to Discord specifically is that it is multi-platform - you can be chatting on a computer, and then pick up right where you left off on your mobile device with a customized app, that is significantly easier to use than a web-based mobile-site forum chat add-on. It is also a lot better for sharing pictures, smooth private message system, etc. Lots of benefits really.

At first, I was a little 'meh' on discord, but once I really started using it, I think it's probably one of the best chat systems I've used.
