Damn that's f'in cool. It seems to be poorly listed but obviously a proto collector got their eyes on it pretty quickly with that kind of offer.

Will definitely be watching!

Thread on DP. It's an early Dr. Mario proto.

That is cool, but it always annoys me when people try to get the auction to end early. It's very unfair for potential buyers.

I was a little bit afraid of the 5 feedback, but the guy is on eBay since 1999, so he's probably legit.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll throw down a bid. Would be cool to have a prototype again. I miss my GI joe one.

YES!!! This is so radical. I actually find this interesting. I would love a CIB version made of this (unlikely I know). But I'd pay good money for a nicely done version of this. It's so cool.

EDIT - has anyone requested a picture of the back. Could be usefull.

Cut and paste job from my post over on DP:

The first copy was sold cheap as a "Tetris" prototype without being tested. It was then resold to a European proto collector.

This is at least the second copy, but I'm pretty sure it's actually the third. Dream has said:
"an internal Nintendo development studio for strategy guides which has been known to produce some pretty rare finds (Virus was found at this same studio)"

I'm assuming that he was referring to this title, although I could be wrong.

There's a member here that currently owns a Virus cart, but I don't want to out them if they're looking to keep it private.

This couldn't have come at a worse time.  I literally spent over a months worth of pay in three days in Vegas.  I'll likely throw a bid down if it stays low enough, but I don't expect to win this time around.  I have to be smarter with my money!

So, does the dog and nurse tell us the creators of Dr. Mario actually intended mario to be a veteranarian dr.?

Hahahaha, good question!

From what I remember of the first copy that was discovered, I believe the dog periodically sneezes throughout the game (although I could be completely mistaken).

^ Actually, I don't know that there is. There is probably 1000 times more demand for a Contra cart. But you don't see protos often.

I am surprised people thought it was a pirate, are those frequently found on real Nintendo boards?

Maybe this one would be good to repro...

There is very little demand for protos to be honest with you.  You've got Dreamtr who can make any proto auction interesting, TheRedeye who is in the mix every once in a while, my brother and I make bids on them often enough, there are a few Euro collectors though a some of them are now out of the game, and that's pretty much it as far as people who bid on these with any regularity.  There are others who will pick up a proto here and there, especially if it's from a serious that they were partial to as a kid, but not many that "collect" prototypes.

That isn't to say they end cheap.  When you're talking about one of kind or two of a kind items, opportunities to make purchases can be few and far between.

Is it really the dog from Duck Hunt? Judging by the picture in the auction, that dog looks more like a bulldog to me (the dog has no (or very short) ears, the dog from Duck Hunt has longer ears and the face of the dogs looks different as well in my opinion). The picture in the auction doesnt show too much details though and seeing that it is a Nintendo game, it would surprise me if it is the dog from Duck Hunt
