After playing Bases Loaded for 2 months and then sinking most of my time into Breath of the Wild, I think my NES skills are fading fast. Didn't think old age would catch up to me so soon!

Score updated. Apparently this game has like... actual platforming. Good lord. xD

The platforming gets so much more difficult. Enjoy stage 6.

If I even make it that far lol.

I do plan to beat the game. Gotta check it off the list! I think doing so would make it the first beat-em-up that I've actually beaten, so here's to hope!

The real platforming headache begins at the end of stage 5 when you have to make it to the top of a huge steam powered train thing that moves back and forth. Then you have a stage with tricky disappearing platforms followered by a stage that opens with conveyer belts and rotating gears. But the platforming is done once you are past the gears in stage 7.

The gears are just annoying. I'm hopeful that I'll have this game beaten this afternoon.

I finally made it past the gears last night. The saving grace for that section is that making a mistake isn't instant death unless you really screw up. I too should have the game completed soon. Unfortunately the enemies do get pretty tough towards the end of the game.

One of my major annoyances with this game is getting knocked off ledges. I'll try to get close enough to the side to throw enemies off and get knocked off myself. I also hate the door in stage 3. I try not to get sucked out with the Abobos, but sometimes it happens.

I'm happy when I can make it past Arnold in stage 4 without taking a lot of damage or getting killed. Once he starts hitting you he can just wreck your ass. Sometimes I can get in close and keep punching him and sometimes I can't. I haven't figured out how to do this consistently.

I have cords running frim systems, into a multi cable thingy, and then a cable running into the TV, and I've gotten used to those cords being in front of my TV.

there another one for my snes that's not hooked up and a RF cable running into the back of my VCR. Thanks, don't use upper cuts when punching, that gives you a hundred points.

Reached stage 8 and I'm still slightly behind Richard and Guts. Crap. I was killed by the same Abobo as Guts, lol. I couldn't even get my damn uppercut to work.

Yeah your run can really get rekt by that Arnold.

I would expect that there are certainly locations that the cyclone kick might still be the lowest score way to get a kill (when it comes to knocking some of the big guys off ledges), though flying knees would still be a better guarantee in those cases.

From what I remember from my 12.9k run last time, I used the jump kick for most things. It only gives you 30 points and does a fairly decent amount of damage.

Try turning your back on him and using the regular kick. It's only ten points just like the punch, but it has a longer range so you have more room to work with.

Yeah, I never crunched the numbers for a low score run, so I don't know the trade-off of when it might actually be cheaper to knock a boss over the edge with a spin kick or knee.

Regular bad guys, I would have thought the headlock-and-throw/kick over the edge would rule the day.

For the tougher bosses (Arnold and Aboboe in the spike tunnel -- Stage 4, I think?), personally, I'd just focus on progression, rather than trying to go low-score.

Kill them however you normally would ("safest" strategy in that are is if you can consistently uppercut -- because taking the hit from the ceiling spikes is lower damage than getting beaten up by the boss)

Yeah, it seems this need to be repeated every time a low score/progression contest happens. Beating the game should be anyone's first priority, regardless of the score. Okay, you can build your low score strategy along the way, but it shouldn't hurt the first goal which is to beat the game. Your score is pretty much pointless as long as you don't beat the game.

I got to Arnold once and somehow cheesed him with kicks and didn't get touched. Then he brutalized my ass (now I sound like Toxie) the second time.

Ugh. The enemies are so much more aggressive than the first game, and they are better at ducking your attacks. I don't know how low of a score I will be able to do, but I want to beat this.

In the first game the jump kick is your most useful move other than the elbow. In DD2 enemies are always ducking so it's much less useful.

Plus if you're slightly off on your timing then you'll do a cyclone kick instead which sucks for a low score contest.

I've never really had an issue with the enemies ducking. Usually if you jump when you're really close to them you can hit them before they have the chance to duck. I wish I had the time this week to give a try, but I'm pretty sure that there wasn't much to my 12.9k low score from the 2015 contest beyond using the jump kick and any weapons that you can get ahold of. I'm guessing it's obvious, but any stage hazards (water, ledges, open helicopter doors) are important too. Any time that you can jump kick an enemy off a ledge it's only 30 points per enemy if you can knock them off on the first hit, so that's another key to a really low score.

I find that enemies normally duck the instant that you jump no matter how close you are.

Game Completed (150,760) (special Bimmy submission)

I don't know what all y'all's problem is so far this week, but I beat the game    Almost no-deathed it but died a dumb death at the first phase of the Shadow Master fight when he disappeared, trapped me in a corner, and beat me to a pulp.  Haven't had that happen in a long time.

I also want to remind everyone that you're going for progress first and low score second.  Some people seem to get confused about this form of contest.  Play the game to beat it first, even if you have a really high score like mine.  If only a couple people beat the game with scores over 150K, they will beat out any score in the Trap Room level with only 60K points.  Once you get comfortable with beating the game, then go back and look for ways to lower your score (knocking enemies off ledges, using punches and kicks more than spin kicks and uppercuts, etc).

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

I am wondering what their problem is as well.
Even I can beat this game.

I will submit my score later during the week. Too immersed in 6502 asm right now, and also, about to leave to the gym for Leg Day.

So did I, but your score was way lower so I guess you technically beat me this week!
