Lookin' good.  Don't steal it or I won't post any more as I make progress.  Don't ruin it for everyone.  Should work up through the neck of the ship.  Still needs some debugging.  Use Start or Select to open the doors.

Thanks to all the people who have been helping me along!  You guys rock.

12/16/09
UPDATE:
Added randomly moving enemies and collision detection.  Still doesn't do much, but I recently acquired some sprites, new ideas, and animation tips.  We're moving along!  It should crap out in the same place as the last one.  Don't want nobody peaking!

5/8/10
UPDATE:
I made some YouTube videos of my progress.

6/29/10
UPDATE:
Another YouTube video of Level 1.  VERY beta.

2/1/11
UPDATE:
YouTube vide of Level 2.  Still minus sprites:

2/25/11
UPDATE:
Level 3 runs.  New ninja wall grab and cealing hang features.

It  glitches out in nestopia, the screen is all scrambled. Dunno if it works in another emulator or not tho.

This is what it should look like in the first room...and the emulator that I've been using.

FCEUltra is by far the best emulator choice, I don't know why you guys anything else. I can't wait to try this out when I get home from work.

Holy crap. Well done. You're way further along than I realized.
Are you using 4-screen mirroring?

^^ I still haven't figured out what the mirroring does. All I know is that after 3+ months, it works and I'm happy.

Actually, Nestopia is a more accurate one. FCE is better, in terms of play use. The game doesn't run right in Nestopia and pretty much doesn't run at all in Nintendulator, which is regarded as the most accurate emulator.

If you are concerned with having it run on real hardware, then you definitely need to address these points.

Just wondering: Why MMC1?

Well, the background takes up a ton of PRG space, and the overworld background tiles here filled up almost all of the one background tile bank.  MMC1 provides ample space for both issues.

Why not?

I didn't know it didn't work on the other things.  I'll have to see if I can figure out why.

The reason why it looks like you have the erroneous graphics is you're doing something wrong with switching in the banks of CHR... Also, Nintendulator reports that you have 240KB of PRG, which is definitely wrong.

Something with yer banks is amiss. I've not used MMC1, so I don't know what else to say on the matter.

MRN: I'll definitely be messing around with this tonight. I'll try it in a few different emulators and let you know any problems that I find.

Amazing work so far, even if it isn't running properly on a few emulators. With the amount of progress you've made in such a short time, I'm sure you'll be able to trouble shoot the problems.

I owe you a PM about donors and EPROMs, I'll send you one tonight!

^^  Yea, banks hate me.  There should be 256kb of PRG rom.  However, right now, the ROM is 264kb = 256kb of PRG + 8kb or CHR.  I'll poke around and see if I messed up something retarted.  It happens a lot.

sad to report this isn't running in FCEUX2.0 either, all I get is a Grey screen on boot up. I'd seen some screens of this earlier and it looks like a ton of fun. Don't let the tech get ya down. I feel your pain with it

Well, the thing to just remember about banks is they're always powers of 2.

So 256 is fine.  2^8
8kb is also fine, 2^3, although I'm assuming you'll go for more graphics later.

NROM uses 8kb of graphics after all.  I don't know.  MMC1 just seemed so strange to me, hence why I don't consider using it.  MMC3 on the other hand...

MMC1 is supported by Retrozone if you are making carts that are not from donors.
MMC3 would require donor carts.

The iNES header is wrong, which is why Nintendulator wouldnt load. It has 15 as the number of PRG banks.
Set num PRG banks to 16 and it runs. You can even edit the iNES header from within Nintendulator, but you need to restart afterwards.

Yep.  That did it.  A quickie hex fix of 0F into 10 makes it run anywhere.

No, it is it's own ship.  I suppose I am too much of a trekkie to make a different format.  I'm thinking of naming it the Nostromo
