Oh man that would be great if Nate stole his thunder. It seems to be a time of hype train derailing in MMA, with over the past few years nearly all the polarizing undefeated (in recent years) figures accumulating a loss or two. Of course I'm reminded of Fedor losing to Werdum, Anderson losing to Chris Weidman, and more recently Jose Aldo losing to McGregor, and Ronda Rousey losing to Holly Holm. Even the new poster boy & girl for the UFC, Sage Northcutt and Paige Van Zant, lost each of their last fights, respectively. MMA is such a dangerous sport, one single mistake and you can have a world-shocking upset. That's the gamble of building up marketable fighters, they aren't Hulk Hogan and this isn't pro wrestling, where you can assure that they stay unbeaten and on top of the pecking order as far as marketing goes. They might get KO'ed in 13 seconds a la Jose Aldo, and any aura of invincibility they had (and tons of marketability that is attached to that) is gone in a flash. Wouldn't surprise me if Nate triangle choked him in the first round, and then for Nate to get a huge push. Of course it would leave the UFC in such an awkward position for what to do with Conor afterward. Going back to defend the featherweight title wouldn't have the same zing if he lost in another weight class between featherweight title defenses.
