Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week's game is going to be The Guardian Legend.  Here are the rules:

• Enter in the password “TGL.”  This will allow you to only play the shooting stages.
• Play until you die (run out of life)
• Take your picture as you die (you can pause the game as you die)
• Get as far in the game as possible
• The areas are played in this order: 0 1 11 12 2 13 3 14 4 15 5 16 6 17 7 18 8 19 9 20 10 21 22
• Furthest progression wins with low score taking precedence
• Participation: Get to Area 11
• GENRE: Shooter/Shoot 'Em Up

The contest ends Sunday, 5/7/17 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

They DO get pretty strange sometimes eh? Lol

Keeps 'em interesting. Like if SuperJim posts a picture of Kickle up to his antics on the female hero of Guardian Legend.

Man your hit box on thin thing is huge lol. It feels so clunky.  

I hate that you have no invincibility time so if an enemy touches you your health bar can go down in a hurry.

Plus side, the first level is incredibly easy to get a low score on. *shrug*

Omg lol the game froze. God damn it.

When I owned this game I always played it "arcade mode" so I wouldn't have to play the dungeon levels. I did beat the game a few times and this is a low score/progression contest, so maybe I can find some time this week to play along.

Updated my score with my first attempt (ignoring the one where the game froze).



The eyeballs suddenly got MUCH faster on this level, and screwed me over lol.

Ugh... I keep screwing up and can't get past of the first level.
I will try again tomorrow. It is clear that I am unfit for using a gamepad today. I am being far more terrible at videogames than usual.

I think the programmers for this game and Bayou Billy must have shared notes. Why do all these bosses have 4 billion HP? And the programmers knew it was stupid so instead of fixing it they just jacked the health/chip drop frequency way up. Pretty stupid as they could have just simply reduced the amount of boss HP. 🙄

Yeah, it is a pretty stupid design choice, really.
NES Developers weren't known for player friendly design ideas.
 

That's the way the game plays, you depend a lot on health-chip drops anywhere, be it in the top view exploration zones, the shooter stages or any difficult bosses. I really don't get why you put this on programmers' stupidity.
