The guy isn't a coder and would need to hire people to design the entire game for him (he doesn't even have those people yet) but he mentions that he could have a full game by as early as next year.

Should have done it on indie gogo then he could at least actually ripped people off (like that bullshit seedi thing)

I think kickstarter makes you refund the money if you don't reach the goal.

Yeah, you don't even get the money until a week or so after it ends, if it was successful.

I'd add too that there is a lot of stuff on KS that infringes on IPs and copyrights that gets funded ("review" books, hacks, you name it), but this one is a bit too obvious, and to the wrong people.

That’s because they don’t take them down unless the original IP owner makes a claim. KS doesn’t listen to the general public, and dismisses any claims from third parties.

As an aside, the best comment was when he said something like “at least I am willing to take the risk.” Risk of what? I guarantee this guy hasn’t put a dime in to any of this.

With proper funding, I can consult appropriate parties to ensure this project is never at risk.

I can't believe how many people are giving him actual advice about how illegal, impossible, and impractical his idea is (Let alone the fact that he has nothing to offer except being the "idea guy" for the brilliant idea of a sequel to SMRPG).

Then there's Joel. Joel gets it.
"Less than a hundred bucks after more than two weeks. People aren't as dumb as you think they are, Avi."

His comments are great too. He wants to create it using RPG Maker and outsource graphics to guys on Fiverr, haha.

A new update was just posted. Apparently the campaign was shut down by Nintendo.

Lol, that's the end of that.

Ideas are unfortunately not valuable. Don't ever tell anyone that you write code for a living, because you will get solicited for doing other people's projects left and right. It doesn't matter what kind of coding you do, everyone you know will ask you to code their mobile app or web site, which is guaranteed to be the next big thing, and for which absolutely no work has been done. I literally had this conversation with a friend of mine:

Him: Yeah, I've got a guy who's really good at marketing, and I'm fleshing the idea out more and more every day, and I've got a guy with good contacts, we just need someone to uh, to uh......

Me: build the whole thing?

Him: Exactly!

We might as well just create a Kickstarter to raise enough funds to buy out Nintendo so that we can run it ourselves and pick what games we want to make next.

I'd rather see that Ocarina of Time game done with LttP graphics that was being worked on a few years back

"Though this Kickstarter has stopped it is a victory for all of us that we have been heard and there is a very real possibility for a sequel!"

nintendo saw the $93 demand and this led to a "very real possibility of a sequel?"
