I loaded this game up a few days ago and watched the intro video. Holy shit it looks unfairly impossible. I have never played it, was just curious if anyone has actually ventured into the depths with this one.

It's kinda like Dragon's Lair: the trial and error would drive you absolutely mad. Major props to anyone who ever beats this one legit...

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

I never owned it, but I've played it a few times.

It's really tough. I remember reading the "Counselor's Corner" about how to beat the last boss and thinking "how the hell would you figure THAT out".

I beat this game on my Sega Genesis... took me forever as it's so damn hard... trial and error over and over learning every single little detail. That said on NES... IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to beat. There are some levels where you have to avoid things in the floor and little tiny details you need to see that just aren't clear enough on the 8-bit system to even be able to have a chance at beating or finding/avoiding, etc.

It is definately possible...my friend and I beat it on nes a few monthes ago, though it took us a few weeks of regular playing TONS of trial and error, TONS of walkthrough reading, it was borderline cheating..but we finally did it...the ending blows dogs for quarters!!! I would definately recommend a game action replay and possibly a gamegenie on this one!!!

That is one seriously tough game. I haven't beat it, but I know I've been pretty close.

I just beat this game again, 2nd time ever about 2 and a half months ago. First time I ever beat it was a decade and a half ago at least. I struggled through this game, and its not having anything to do with the puzzles or such, its the damn action sequences, this game is just so cheap. Almost every move you make at first is going to be the wrong move, the thing that will make you have to start all over again from the beginning of the stage with your password. Each step you make could result in the same thing happening to you again and again, sometimes in the same spot, but most likely another spot close by, game over. I don't remember enjoying the game the 1st time I beat it, but certainly this last time I did not. The stages are short, but the traps are plentiful, and many of those are 1 hit kills. I had Nintendo Power beside me the first time, and again this time, I certainly wasn't going to fluster myself more than I had to by trying to avoid hidden hazards. The absolute most frustrating stage of the game--though they were all very frustrating in one spot or another, or entirely--was the Norlac chase, probably one of the absolute cheapest parts of any game I've beaten. The game annoyed me so much that I could care less about the story or anything else dialog-wise, I just wanted to get it all over and done with, it'll be another decade+ probably before I pick this game up to beat it again. The Dragon was the only part of the game that I actually enjoyed, even though I had to fight it quite a bit before getting what I had to do to survive right.
