I didn't get at all what you said in the first sentence . For the RetroUSB not taking CC... I used a debit card and it worked... and I believe that in the US there are Giftcards that work like debit cards, you can try that, but ask RetroUSB if they work with the site.

Hmm... none of the links on NESdev are working for those patches. I also have a TRUCKLOAD of pirates I wouldn't mind testing. I know Super Contra 2 works off the top of my head. It's actually a cool looking pirate hack too. Best part is keeping your weapon when you die.

Also gotta love that NES Tekken music...XD

Update: added technical reasons for games that don't work (the ones I could figure out), and a list of non-US releases, pirates, hacks and protos that work.

For your PAL games testing, are you using a PAL NES? Graphics problems there could certainly be from the difference in vblank time.

Finding out which mapper YOUR rom uses may also help for some games, especially unlicensed/pirate ones. I usually use Nintendulator for that, bet ucon64 has options for it too.

Yeah, I think having a PAL NES would make the difference, for example, Battletoads vs Double Dragon (PAL) has serious glitches, but the NTSC version works right. Some PAL games do work well with a NTSC NES though. I'll try to get Nintendulator for the mapper thing. Thanks bunnyboy, for the input, and for creating my favorite piece of Nintendo hardware... ever thought of offering a deluxe version, with box and print manual? I'd buy it for sure.

Thanks Jorge!

I used your info and made a "power pak optimized" rom set.
If anyone wants a download link PM me.

Below is a list of the "optimizations" I have made

- Sorted by Region / COUNTRY
    - USA
        - JAPAN
    - EUROPE (PAL games not fully tested)
    - ASIA

- USA
    - Sorted Licensed / Unlicensed
    - Licensed, sorted alphabetically
    - Unlicensed, sorted by publisher (mostly)

- Misc     - Contains mostly random obscure unlicensed stuff

* NOTE: These roms have not been tested for compatibility :ETON *

    - Hacks - Rom hacks, mostly stupid, shitty, old graphical swaps
    - PD - Public Domain (Mostly Demos)
    - Pirate - Pirate Roms, mostly crazy chinese shit
    - Proto - Prototype roms, divided into Released / Unreleased
    - Translated - Roms translated into English only (removed other languages, sorry )

- Pruned Duplicates: alternates, overdumps, bad dumps [a1],[01],[b1] etc...

- Shortened file names by removing extra codes. (U) (E) (J) [!] (Unl) etc...
    - Also shortened names of some games; Cast 2 Simons Quest -> Castlevania 2.nes

- Changed II's to 2s,IV's to 4 etc. because I hate people who think you have to write a number in roman numerals to be proper if it looks like it on the label.
    - Also Added a 1 to the first of a series so it would display in order correctly (at least on a PC ) (Otherwise Adv Isl , Adv Isl 2, Adv Isl 3 gets sortede as Adv Isl 2, Adv Isl 3, Adv Isl etc...

- Known incompatible roms sorted into one folder (in case of future compatability)

! Known problem games patched to work correctly:
    - Captain Planet
    - Dirty Harry
    - Infiltrator
    - Last Star Fighter
    - Mad Max
    - Paperboy

nice job! I hope you used NEStoy to rename most roms, to remove the (U), (J), etc... Removing those by hand is hard and unnecessary

EDIT:

did you get these working?

Krazy Kreatures
Cheetahmen 2 (glitches)
Deathrace
Deathbots
Mermaids of Atlantis (glitches)
Time Conquest (?)

Basically Estil, that is if I am remembering what the harmony is correctly.

Here's some info.. PM me if you have any questions, I love my powerpak, I use it alot for beta testing games on real hardware, plus it saves me from digging out a game to play it..

the powerpak is super great, I strongly recommend it! It even lets you save games (when said games have a save option, that is). Game Genie support, up to 5 codes! cyclone chip included (works with all NES consoles, PAL or NTSC).

I ordered a Harmony Cart, hope it arrives soon

I guess paypal actually checks the billing address with the bank system (in this case, Visa). Giftcards don't have that kind of info associated, so I guess that's the problem. At my former work, we processed payments online, and the system we used did take giftcards. We then changed to a different system, and it didn't accept them.

One last thing you could try is something called "Prepaid card", which is almost as a debit card (Billing info associated), but you ca get it in some stores (from what I know, I've never been in the US). And in the last case, get a real debit card! You should really contact Retrozone to know which are your options.

I can confirm that the Japanese exclusive I'm Kid Dracula works on the PowerPak, so you can safely add that one.

I can also confirm that Crystalis sufferes from graphics glitches on the PowerPak, so you can add that one as well.  The text in the dialogue balloons is partially messed up so that you can't read it effectively, which can severely hamper gameplay, so much that it isn't really playable IMO.  I've tried ROMs from a few different sources, and same result.

And thanks all to effing hell for making that list!!!

And, Mods, why the effing hell isn't this awesome thread a sticky???

Thank you for the input Jeff... the ROM I have seems to be ok... where did you start finding this problem? I talked to everyone in town after getting out of the cave, and everyone's dialogue reads fine. I'll add I'm Kid Dracula right now, and send you a PM to help you with Crystalis.

I agree, this could be a sticky.

The dialogue balloon glitch is there from the first town onwards, but perhaps I've got a bunk ROM. PM sent in reply, thanks! And, might I suggest that for those six games that will play if patched, put something like "(works if patched)" after their entries, just to clarify, and perhaps put a link to that forum thread with the patches in the first post for extra handiness? Just a thought. :-) Thanks to the tipoff in this thread from Brad B (THANKS MAN!!!), I was able to grab the patches for them, and now of course they play perfectly. I just realized that these same six games don't work in the PicoDrive emulator on my PSP either, but I'll bet the patched versions will. I'm off to find out...

I couldn't get crystalis to work right either, but I could never find out why mine doesn't work and others supposedly do I definately have up to date mappers.
It's especially obvious in the shops. If you can buy something from the shop without guessing what it is, you aren't getting the glitch.

Edit: This would be using a ROM I dumped myself from a cart I confirmed working on actual nes, and the ROM I confirmed working in multiple emulators.  Still not sure whats up with that.

Nope...unfortunately, Jorge, the Crystalis glitch is still there for me, and my PowerPak is fully up-to-date as well. I wonder why this glitch shows up for me and Cradelit, but not for you...  :-(

Thanks for trying to help though!  :-)

Has anyone else gotten Crystalis to work on the PowerPak without the dialogue glitch?

I forgot to tell: my Powerpak is magical, and has mappers from an alternate future.

Seriously though, it is interesting that my Powerpak doesn't show the glitch... do you have mapper version 1.33? that's what I got. Bunnyboy?
