Hey guys,

I've been doing some drooling at M82's lately, an was curious, did Nintendo ever make a Multi- cart Demo unit for the SNES? (like the M8 or M82)

Curious?

Personally, I've never seen one.

There are several SNES kiosks that all are just a slightly modified SNES inside a plastic case locked down. The only modification is to install a timer on the reset. They still take only one game.

Also, there is an SNES arcade cabinet. Can't remember what it's called at the moment.

Nah, I own an M82, but the snes is my favorite system. Believe me that if it existed I would have heard about it by now

There's a SNES arcade machine at the drive in theater/outdoor flea market near me. Pretty sweet. It has FZero and SMW, and 2 other games, I think.

Are those just regular SNES controllers? I bet those got tore up fast in an arcade environment.

I think the closest thing to an M82 for SNES would be something like this...

...Unfortunately, though, it takes special cartridges (from the pics, they look to be almost the size of a Neo-Geo cartridge o_O ).

Edit:  Evidently, the second version takes regular cartridges.

Well it only plays Super Famicom games.

One ended on ebay this summer or early fall. I think it ended for like 600 or so.

So cheaper than the M82 for sure

That snescentral article says "These include...", does that mean there are more than four carts?

Too bad it doesn't look like it can handle games like Mega Man X2 and X3, Starfox, Stunt Race and Mario RPG...even if you can play US games on it

Cool as that second revision looks, the first one still seems the more interesting piece of hardware imo. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the special carts they use Hoping that by the time I'm in the market for one they haven't increased in price too much.

Also, not quite related to the topic but, I've seen it mentioned that the Nintendo M8 had socketed chips, that it'd be not overly difficult to switch out the on-board games for others, is that true?

That's right!  Every M8 game is in sockets on one massive multicart that plugs into a standard NES board.  There is a set of DIP switches that picks the mirroring for each game.  The only restriction for swapping out games is the new one has to be NROM only.
