I'll have to give that a shot later. I'm going to have arthritis in my thumb by the middle of the week at my current pace, although I think my left one is more sore from all of the dodging involved in this game.

Yeah, my problem is with the D-Pad.  Only played about 15 minutes and my left thumb was sore. Time to pull out the NES Advantage!

Just curious. Is the advantage allowed?

Advantage is allowed as long as you don't use the turbo options, naturally.

Damn I wish my schedule allowed me to play more during the week. Definitely want to chase after these scores. Nicely done acromite!

Wow 300k!

How do you guys get so good at these?

Does anybody else seem to pilot there solvalou directly into oncoming enemy fire? Lol

Not only that but I tend to lose all my solvalou. Once I lose one, I lose them all.

I'd say! You've already scored almost 100k more points than the world record and it's only Tuesday! Despite the Atari 2600 level graphics, "music" that makes me think I have tinnitus and thumb crippling controls, it is a fun game.

I thought about that too, but I just didn't use the turbo function.  Doubled my score, but found out the NES Advantage doesn't work with my Sharp Nintendo TV.

I usually stay towards the lower center area of the screen. It's kind of a sweet spot that helps you avoid enemy fire from the top and sides while still leaving you enough room to avoid anything that gets behind you.

I tried playing last night, and got absolutely abysmal results. I can't wait to give it another shot when my Sansui controller gets here

Great game! Also I remember seeing a cool video with the creator talking about Xevious from like 1985. I'll see if I can find it again.

Found it:

It's all Japanese, but the YouTube captions sort of work. Anyway, figured it'd fit with the contest. I'll see if I can get a score out this week.

I couldn't get the closed captions to make sense. When I tried the English translation option, the first sentence came out as "I proceed to the abolition reduced both league more than 30 kinds of procurement difficulties of beef" .

Another hilarious line was "American police are after all against it". At least they understand that the difficulty in the procurement of 30 kinds of beef is something that needs to be abolished.

The weirdest line was at the end saying "Young guys in Hong Kong post I to pound was good". I'm not even touching that one.

Maybe that's why silos pop up when you bomb certain areas. You are supposed to blow them up to release grain to feed the cattle so the people of Xevious can procure beef more easily!
