Also, now that this is over, I should just record a no death run I did on Ikari Warriors.
I had done it minutes before Mario Bros was announced to be the first game of the tournaments and I completely forgot about doing so or even celebrating it, since my mind went from "YAY! We did it!" to "I am doomed" in less than a minute. >.>

I have been trying to do it since 2014. It took me more than two whole years to get it done.
That is being bad at videogames. And now I have to do it again because I freaking forgot to record that run. *sighs*
Work for the weekend, I guess.

But even if it took you two years, you still accomplished something that roughly 99.9% of NES players have never done. Most people feel the game is impossible to beat as it is, let alone no-death running it. Bea, that's amazing. Don't sell yourself so short!

Look, I have died to Metalman while using the Metal blade on Megaman 2 while playing on normal.
It usually takes me at least 50 attempts to beat him with the quickman weapon on the normal game before Willy's castle. Can't get any worse than that.
I am just okay at a few bunch of games.
I do intent to get an AVS and HDMI capture hardware on 2017 to stream those few games where I perform well, though.
It ought to be fun to try to no death Ikari Warriors live.

I wouldnt worry too much about the Metal Man thing. Heck, I consider myself pretty good, and there were several games for the contests this year I had to absolutely struggle with just for participation credit(Legendary Wings being one). I can crush shooters like Silver Surfer and 1943 no problem, but that game threw me off, badly.

If you can crush 1943 then you can easily no-death Legendary Wings with some practice. I no-deathed two loops and I suck at shooters.

I dunno what it is, but LW didn't click with me for some reason. I tried to play it for about 2 hours, died a bazillion times, and just lost complete interest. I struggled just to get participation.

Were you becoming fully powered up? All you have to do is not get hit until you find the lucky room and become fully powered, and then you're almost invincible for the rest of the game. Also be sure to not get sucked into the danger rooms (except for the last stage where it is almost unavoidable).

I don't even know. Sometimes it was top-down. sometimes it'd switch to side-scrolling, I have no idea what designates areas "Lucky" or "Danger." Maybe I"ll give it another try sometime, but it's really, really low on my list.

It looks like the problem was you didn't understand the game well enough. It actually is very easy once you know to avoid the danger rooms and find the lucky rooms and become fully powered. When fully upgraded you can take three hits until you go back to normal and your weapon becomes so much stronger.

I'm sure the game will come up again in a future contest.

Yeah Legendary Wings can basically summarized in a few bullet points

1 - Top-down: Tornadoes take you to danger zones, which are good for high score, bad for low score
2 - Top-down: There is a lucky stage hidden somewhere, most are obvious, there is one that requires bombing an unmarked area. This is practically mandatory for low score
3 - Sidescrolling: If you're fully powered just melt everything with your OP attack and defense

BTW, the lucky rooms you find by bombing the cannons and puffs of air suck you into them. The danger rooms are the giant heads that suck you in if you're not careful.

Yeah, don't go out of your way to play it. I think that it's a fun shooter but it's not the greatest game. Just be aware that it is very easy when you know how to play it... for when it comes up again in a future contest.

Holy cow that was a close one with our scores there!  Nice job!

Yeah, looks like we lost on the same stage too.

Also, here's the video of my score:

I am pretty sure the amount of deaths I had to achieve that score is actually higher than the score itself.
You are incredible!  This is the real deal!

I forgot how much of a bitch 8-3 was (of course when i 'beat' it, i used a game genie to level warp, and did it with no weapons...).  This almost makes we want to play it again... almost.

Bea I watched your run and wow that is quite impressive! So many times you had ridiculously close calls. I think my nerves would've been shot long before I made it to the 8-4 boss. Both 7-3 and 8-3 looked absurdly challenging. Well done!

You tell me... That run almost ended in so many places where I just got lucky with my timing.
I tried to not lose focus when they happened, lest the next very thing would end that run. Usually, I only took time to breath properly and relax during the point talling at the end of the stage.
